Newbie on the boards. I have been reading about Sky's new Sky Talk plan for unlimited uk anytime calls for £5 a month. My question is, does this represent a good deal?
I would like to keep my line with BT for flexibility in moving Broadband and the like but would like to bring my costs down, so is the best way to do this with BT Option 1 + Sky or is there a better way?

There's an earlier thread about the £5 Sky Talk offer but it can be summarised thus:
If you have a BT line and are a Sky subscriber, you'd need to make more than 166 weekday daytime UK 01/02 calls per month (each month, every month) for the Sky Talk offer to be worthwhile.
That's because, for no monthly fee, you can already get free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls by using Primus Saver Option 2 as your CPS (Carrier Pre-Select) provider and, using www.call1899.co.uk for 166 weekday daytime UK 01/02 calls would cost less (£4.98).
Ignoring the fact that the Sky Talk monthly fee has to be paid even when you're away on holiday, the maths are simple. Does your household regularly make more than 166 such peak calls?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hi
Has anyone who is a sky customer been tempted to sign up for their £5 per month flat fee for calls offer?

I'm no longer a Sky customer, but if you make over 166 calls during the daytime each and every month then it's not a bad option.
The great thing is it is a CPS service, so your line rental remains with BT and therefore you are able to get CLID for free (2 calls per month over BT now required) and still route calls over 1899 and 18185 as and when. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Great if you make lots of calls. But you have to pay the £60 a year whether you use it or not,and if you leave Sky you have to give it up.
Better surely to use the combination of
Peak. 1899. 3p a call to 01/02 numbers.
Evenings & Weekends Primus Saver 2. Free Calls to 01/02 numbers.
Cheaper and you dont pay if you dont use the services.0 -
Yeah, that's what I'd recommend Primus 2 and 1899 + 18185, unless you know you are going to make over 166 daytime calls each and every month. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
