This Sky Talk sounds like a good deal. Talk Talk will def reduce their broadband and talk plans soon.
It seems a little doubtful as something/someone has to pay for the "free" broadband hence reason why TT linerental went up and free weekend calls was stopped for those who wish to take out their basic Talk1 package.

Right now TT are getting loads of customers due to their "free" broadband so their is no competitive pressure for them to price-match Sky's.

I do hope the likes of Primus, etc reduce their all-inclusive package to match that of Sky's though!

    Hi,

I am thinking of moving from my BT Option 1 to the Sky Talk package. From what I understand all I will pay is the BT line rental and the Sky £5 fee to get free landline calls. I already have Sky TV, Sky credit card and soon to get the free sky broadband (when its available) so why not change the phone too?

    anyone got any thoughts?

Unless you make more then 38 01/02 peak calls a week. You would be better off using 1899 for your peak calls.(3p a call),and using Primus Saver 2 for free E&W calls at no charge.

I make it 41 per week (£5 divided by 3p divided by 4) but the point's well made.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I'm using First Telecom on saver 2 plan which is 200 anytime minutes to UK landlines for £2 per month.
If I use up my 200 minutes ( or make any calls where I expect to be on the phone for a long time ) I then use 1899 until the next months allowance starts up and to top it all I got £10.50 for joining them through Quidco so my first 5 months are effectively free.

Roughly 4.5 weeks in a month on average.
    So £5/3/4.5 = 37.04 :)

    I got to 38 by £5 x 12 months =£60 divided by 3p, divided by 52 weeks =38.46

I spoke to a Sky Sales Guy today in my local shopping centre. He told me that once llu was completed SKY would be offering line rental of £9.50p a month. But would be charging for caller display.
  • Hi all,

Newbie on the boards. I have been reading about Sky's new Sky Talk plan for unlimited uk anytime calls for £5 a month. My question is, does this represent a good deal?

I would like to keep my line with BT for flexibility in moving Broadband and the like but would like to bring my costs down, so is the best way to do this with BT Option 1 + Sky or is there a better way?

You can get unlimited landline evening/ weekend calls for free (with Primus), and daytime calls for 3p each regardless of duration (with 18185).

Then it's just a question of totting up how many daytime calls to landlines you make during an average month. If it's more than around 4 per day, then go with Sky - otherwise don't bother.

You mean 1899 (18185's connection charge is 4p).
