McAfee or virginmedia security

;)hi guys. I would like some advice please. I recently subscribed to virginmedia broadband.It comes with a security centre for free but my problem is i already have mcAfee installed. Does anyone know which one is better? Thanks

I would not rate either VM or McAfee principally because of the impact they may well have on resources. If you're using the VM router as well (rather than your own) then the impact will be even greater IME.

Avast is fine as is Avira.

Neither, both are complete rubbish !

- If McAfee is [ and I doubt it ] paid for and licensed let it run till the end of the paid period, then replace with the free Microsoft Security Essentials
- If McAfee is [ on a free trial period ] ' trialware ' let it run till the end of free trial period, then replace with the free Microsoft Security Essentials

To be honest if I had the full paid for McAfee in perfect working order I'd uninstall it anyway, it's a big fat greedy product and there are better, smaller, and more effective products for free.

I would'nt install anything from Virgin even if they paid me good money !

just to re-itterate what everyone else is saying, mcaffee used to be a good product, then they went the same way Norton/Symantec did and just turned into one big hungry resource hog.

i tried to install VirginMedia stuff on vista, just to try it.... vm didnt like vista... oh well lol at least vista was good for one thing.

Nothing like a bit of outdated and unsubstantiated prejudice, is there!

Norton used to be a significant resource hog, but over the last couple of years the reviews have pointed out how much they have reduced the 'footprint', and recently Norton Internet Security came near the top of a review of all internet security suites.

I personally dislike McAfee quite a lot, but I wouldn't state, without good evidence, that it was "complete rubbish". Since it is a fairly successful company, many people must have considered it worth having, or keeping, if pre-installed on their PCs.

Remove mcafee and install the virgin media security package

or for free, use the software recommended in post #6

thanks very much for your replies. I realised that i need to uninstall the mcAfee software before installing virginmedia. I had to ask cause i didn't want to be going back and forth with installations.

I thought it "used" to be based on Kaspersky but Panda now?

Maybe wrong, could somebody confirm that.

Don't forget to use the McAfee removal tool (link below) if you are uninstalling McAfee.
