Afraid you can't sack someone for taking part in a legal strike - sorry!
And losing 2 days pay is not really what counts as fun in my book.
Thats a shame, lets hope the next govt makes most of them redundant instead. As soon as people start to live in the real world and realise we (tax payers) can't afford all the silver lined t&c's the better. The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -

I do agree that there are too many civil servants. However, the majority are lower paid than they would be working in the private sector, and the T&C's just about even up the playing field over a career.
Not that I'm saying all civil servants would be employed by a private sector employer of course - that's a whole different issue. However, a lot of us do our jobs because we enjoy them - not for the high wages and gold plated pensions.
Sometimes the Daily Mail gets it wrong. Shocking, isn't it?0 -

I'm sure it does wouldn't know don't tend to read any daily newspaper., but every civil servant i know seems to earn more than the low paid private sector.. maybe thats just round here, but the civil service (even the low paid) seem to be earning quite well..The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -
I think you're a bit more north - totaly different story in the South East. I earn between 10-15k a year less than friends in similar roles, but I have more responsibility and accountability.
Correspondingly, I have more job security, and I do like my work. That's the only reason I've not left yet0 -

Quite a bit further north... and the average wage round here is £14k..... (and its the public sector that pulls it up to that level)... saying that wouldn't live in the south east for all the tea in chinaThe futures bright the future is Ginger0 -
even in the north its A LOT less! friend gets 28k in civil service. works with outside companies who do same job and get paid around 35k for same job all same benefits except flexi but i doubt flexi is worth THAT much a pay drop! how north do you live because you must be in scotland surely?0

no still in england..... 28k to 35k I would dispute is a lot less, when you add in pension, holidays, mat pay etc.... and i don't know many people working in the private sector that earn 35k (execpt people who own their own businesses or Uilitie Companies).....
Still think the CS needs streamlining and lets start by getting rid of any strikers...The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -
