  • Your job centre could still be open on that day, depends how many staff there are union members & take part in the strike.
They might not know if they will be open as they will not know in advance how many will support the strike. If they don't advise you in advance of any change of signing day that week probably best to go at your usual time, if you find the office closed go back the following day.
Check back on here nearer the time as might have more information then (it could even get called off before then).

I havent heard about this strike but when jobcentre staff have been on strike before there has been cover at the jobcentre. It may only affect staff who are in the PCS union.

Some jobcentres were closed to people signing on during the last strike. I'd suggest ringing your local jobcentre on the day you are due to sign on and see what they advise.

It is the PCS union, and it is a 2 day strike - on the 8th and 9th of March. I think it affects most government departments, but local offices may or may not be open depending on staff belonging to the union etc.

For anyone who is interested to know, the strike is about changes to the terms and conditions relating to redundancy.

I'm sure you can if you're prepared to give up 2 days money - most Unions are very inclusive!

Of course, it might be cancelled at the last minute, and the office might still close as the Union won't think to tell the members. Last time, I was happily striking away, in my PJ's when I get a phone call from my boss, asking where I am. "At home, striking" says I. "Was called off last night" says he - had to take a day's leave. Grrrr

Afraid you can't sack someone for taking part in a legal strike - sorry!

And losing 2 days pay is not really what counts as fun in my book.
