Talktalk Broadband Setup

Has anyone had problems setting up Talktalk broadband? We received our modem and installation disc over 3 weeks ago and still cannot use our Talktalk e-mail. Initially installation did not complete - we had decided to take the Talktalk antivirus security and on re-starting the PC as requested, it told us that our Windows was counterfeit! This was rubbish as we had bought our PC package from a very well known, large national warehouse a couple of years ago. Everything on our PC went haywire and after spending days trying to rectify it we had to call in an engineer - at our own cost of course. He encountered exactly the same problems as us but eventually was able to install the Talktalk broadband in a couple of hours, re-install our own original anti- virus and get the PC back to normal. However, although we eventually were able to set up 2 Talktalk email addresses, accessing them is very difficult and sporadic, and we are unable to send or reply to e-mails.
Throughout this period of events we have written to Talktalk, sent numerous emails (using MSN) and members of the family have also contacted them, all with no response from Talktalk. We will have to call the engineer in again to rectify the email problems.
Are we unique with our problems? We would be interested to hear if anyone else has had similar distress!

Thanks - yes, have followed all the instructions as per this page umpteem times, but log in fails. My daughter has just forwarded our complaint to escalations@cpw.co.uk and got an automated response which is more than we have had before. Coincidentally (?) I have just been able to access the account and send mail for the first time!0

Had the same problem, you have to get someone to send you an email at your new talk talk address. It takes a while to arrive at your inbox, once you have recieved it your email will work. Had to do this for each address I set up.It does tell you to do this when you set up your email address.0

Thanks, but we had posted numerous e-mails from various sources to the newTalktalk addresses over the past 3 weeks with no success. As you say, eventually it has worked but I suspect that whatever the problem was it was rectified at the Talktalk end, hopefully as a result of all our e-mails to them!0

I have the same problem. After many problems with talktalk (how aptly named!) I finally got my internet access up and running, but still no success with emails. Ive sent numerous emails to myself, checked all the settings several times, etc. but nothing happens.
When Outlook Express tries to access the server the following message appears - "There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your password was rejected. Account 'mail.talktalk.net' Server. 'mail.talktalk.net', Protocol POP3, Server Response 'ERR login failed' Port 110 Secure (SSL): No, Server error 0x800CCC90, Error number 0x800CCC92"
I note that talktalk now have a 10p minute technical advice line (0871 226 7146) which I am naturally reluctant to resort too. Anyone any ideas?0 -
I've had a few problems recently with this when setting up other peoples TT.
It seems that even though you reg an email name, their system hasn't been updated properly. I had the same problem again today but when I set up the on-line account for viewing bills etc it came to life all of a sudden when it rec'd an email confirming the set-up, could be just co-incidence though.
What makes me laugh is that their own monitoring software (TT go)reports an error with the settings on the last tick box validity & tries to correct it without sucess.0 -
Any advice from any Successful Installation on the Trick.
Does TT Provide Wireless BB, if so how to go about it.0 -
If you want wireless, just buy a wireless adsl router & wireless card for PC/Laptop plenty of good deals out there.
Just a question of entering your Username(Phonenumber@talktalk.net) & password in PPPOA settings.
No requirement to run setup disk etc0 -
Has anybody else had this problem? I've been live with them apparently since June but have received absolutely zilch. And they haven't answered my emails.0

Welcome to the wonderful world of TalkTalk, what you post is typical, this is why the internet is full of people warning others not to even consider TalkTalk. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
