as the cars not worth that much and is only used for local journeys and because of my budget i'll have to go with the cheper option

since most accidents happen local to the home there is little logic in using that to reduce the tyre spend.
You may not drive quickly round corners or travel at high speed on the motorway but on local roads you're more likely to have a school kid run out in front of you, or a pet. Parked cars, bus stops, crossing points are all areas where people cross the road and you might need to stop quickly.
Budget tyres can make the difference between stopping in time or wiping out a child.
Personally I'd buy mid range tyres eg avon, firestone, falken etc....regardless of age of car or mileage or area I drive in.
Keen photographer with sales in the UK and abroad.
