We paid 2.5% on your last house sale (sigh). And this time, I feel determined to drive that a lot lower. But Martin and Marcus's figure of 1% seem very low. We live in West London and have just had three agents round for valuations etc.
One was Foxton's - massive in London if they're not near you - and their fees are 2.5% non noegotiable.
- The other two were smaller agents but they've only dropped 0.25% from 2 to 1.75. I've yet to respond but I can't see them going lower.
Anyone else done this recently in London? Am I just being too easy on them?

I've just posted on another thread about this, and as our flat isn't quite finished, I've only had a quick conversation with Haart, but I have got them to 1.25%.
Our first sale we paid 2% to the agent who we went with because they had the house wanted (and didn't get) :wall: Our second sale we paid 1.5% instead of 2% to Halifax becase we had an account but we still weren't really looking for the best price.
Having moved to the Midlands now, it's easy to get 1%.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thanks for that. Is that Haart in London? That is, are you selling in London at the moment?0

I'm in SE LOndon and was initially offered between 1.25 and 1.5% but I negotiated this down to 1%.... not veryu hard really I just said I was not prepared to pay more than xxxxx and did they want my buisness.0

Have you tried the online sites and selling it yourself? I put my Hotel on a few free sites homesonsale, houseladder.... I have a buyer for it (within a week) - it could still fall through, of course but there's no guarantee with Estate agents either. It's worth giving it a go though to save paying any fees at all!0
-
We managed 1% last time - We just told the estate agent that this is all we were prepared to pay, if not we would go elsewhere.
Next time I am going to say - no % just a fixed amount as to what I think is fair for the work they do, take it or leave it!0 -
I think Im going with houseladder which is less than £500 & feeds into rightmove. ( quidco cash back too)
If that doesnt work, Im going for half a percent I think:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Great stuff this - keep em coming!
Considering halfapercent as can do viewings myself. But it seems that really all you need is something that feeds into the main property sites, eg rightmove etc.
Respect to all you who dropped it to 1% (or less).0 -
do you not worry that the lower percentage you pay the agent the less they will promote it? not saying that they wont be thats what id worry aboutYou're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on0
