There are quite a few charity shops near me too.

I bought a pair of gold coloured fully lined curtains for £7.50 the other week plus a pair of brand new unopened long curtains (although floral) for £15 and the original price on the packet was £125:eek: If they are too long then I can either take them back or I will sell them on ebay.

I always look in the Heart Foundation Furniture shop when I am in town - I once got a lovely set of mahogany drawers from the 1920's for £20 (I think they were part of a dressing table set but this was a drawer unit on its own) and I have had a table that looks like a trolley but if you move the top the bottom part cantilevers up and this rests on two brass bits and it becomes a square table for serving tea on, this cost me about £10 and needed a bit of sanding and revarnishing but it looks fab.
  • I know people think some charity shops are dear but if the goods didn't sell at those prices they'd know - the fact they keep them high means they are reaching their sales targets

I was thrilled last month. Was looking for a new day to day handbag. Found one that had clearly never been used, black leather, for a fantastic £1.49. I feel chuffed everytime I look at it.

Wow that's great, what bag did you get?
  • We've had a new CS shop open recently in a nearby town - a charity antique shop! The guy who runs it has bought some things at auction, some are donations, and the profits are going to an orphanage in India. The pricing is about ½ or less of what the equivalent pieces would be in an antique shop (even after haggling!) Does anyone know of any others like this?

I went in with my friend who's a clock repairer and collector yesterday - he was not only able to tell them a lot about some of the clocks in stock, but he got 2 new customers who need their clocks repaired or serviced!

The other unusual CS I know of is a food shop - but it's about 40 miles away so I only go there when I'm working in the area. It gets short dated and overstocked food from the local suppliers and wholesalers, can be a bit hit and miss but I've got 5kg bags of Uncle Ben's there, and big bottles of olive oil. (It's also very good for crisps, but I'm avoiding those!)
  • Lovely pair of Sanderson curtains for £2.99, that I'll cut down and re-make into something lovely!
(found some old laura ashley curtains a while ago and re-made into about 5 cushions, a doorstop, some bits for applique and still have a bit left!!)
Also a dogtooth skirt, which i've been after for ages to go with some dogtooth shoes I already have - £3.49.

Oh and best one in december, monsoon silver silk shift dress with lots of beading, £10! Thats mum and dads anniversary party and a wedding in june sorted!! (and I already have some primark bargain shoes to go with it - outfit for £16!!!!)

    LOVE Chazzer shops!!!!

I really ought to look harder in mine, and visit more often! There are loads in my town, but I only ever really look in them for books. The best for this where I am is a local hospice CS, which sells books for 50p each - bargain!

I have bought a couple of trinkets in them but never really look at the clothes and bags but perhaps I should from reading your posts!

Not one of the big ones, it is a over the shoulder black on with tan trim, lovely quality
  • I went for a snoop of charity shops yesterday in an area I hadn't ventured to for an age and found all kinds of wonderful things. Just a pity that a) I have no money to spend and b) I have no access to a sewing-machine. There were some really lovely interlined curtains for amazingly low prices which I could have made use of and some perfect little boots which were very slightly too rich for my blood. Not that I actually needed any boots and I have, ahem, rather more than several pairs already so not a heart-breaker by any stretch of the imagination.

What I was amazed by were the prices of some of the kitchen thingy bits, which I love browsing and poking about at. Much, much too high. Why would they price things at higher than one could buy the equivalent new at a pound shop or Wilkinson's? So daft.

To satisfy my need for novelty, and to come away with at least something I bought a much-wanted thriller for a pound.
