I'm not sure about me but I'm sure my OH would say his best CS bargain was the denim jacket he got from the British Heart Foundation shop in Scarborough for about £1 six years ago. Not only was it a bargain but when he started Sixth Form, a girl spotted him wearing it in the Common Room and thought he looked great in it and now he's living with her.
I haven't seen it in a while, I'll have to ask if he's still got it. He really does look sexy in denim.

Today I found a brand new Slanket in Marie Curie for £5 - I had bought myself a cheap one last year and thought it was OK, but now comparing it to the original, I would need about 3 of my cheap ones to make up the thickness of the original, its in cream which is a colour I love so very happy with that - it was just before they closed and woman at till told me they had put it out ready for tomorrow, but I snagged it
)), also a pair of brand new boots that have rubber for foot area and then quilted, waterproof up over the ankles, just what I wanted for going out into garden during the winter, soles are nice and thick and well grooved as well, they were £6. So I felt that was £11 well spent.
A few weeks ago was in another Marie Curie and found a GAP 100% cotton winter coat, in my size and it looked as if it had either never been worn or worn a few times as labels were still crisp and fresh looking and nowhere faded- its duffel coat style but with zip as well as buttons, inside is fully quilted with thick cotton padding, plenty of deep pockets all with popper fastenings and of course hood. Wanted a new winter coat, but really couldn't justify the expense as old one although fading a bit ( was brown and looking more tanned now after many, many washes) is still in great condition. Price on it was £10, took it to the till and got told it couldn't be bought on its own I had to buy something else for £3, she did say why but cannot remember, anyway one of the assistants helped me look for something and she spotted a brand new Marks and Spencer top priced at £3. really nice one in purple - very cheap even for them, so took it to till and then was charged £10 for both, asked if that was right and told yes - so I was very, very happy. Love the coat, fits well and room for a few layers if need be, but thick and warm, and I love cotton, oh yes coat is cream)))
It does amaze me how people buy things then give them away without using them, bought so many brand new items with all the labels still on them over the years in charity shops, but not complaining their extravagance gives me bargains.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Ive had loads of fab bargains recently. Was pottering round Warrington whilst getting car MOT'd and came across a brand new with tags wook jacket by Religion. Not a make Im familiar with. Tried it on, fitted great so bought it for £6.99. Had a look on the web and they sell for £150 usually:j. Also got DD hat, scarf and gloves for £3 and loads of new costume jewellery 2 for £1.
Today had a look round my local ones and got a brand new pair of purple Phse Eight shoes for my office do for £4.50 they retail for about £89 usually:eek:
Im amazed people can afford these expensive mistakes. I love them though and may they make many more.I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -
That jacket sounds like a bargain, starsandmoon. I went into my local cs today and saw a Per Una cardigan for the same price that you've paid for that jacket!!!! Needless to say, I didn't buy it - the cardi was even a bit stretched (I made sure I wasn't)!Normal people worry me.0

Oxfam book shops are ridiculously expensive. I have tried to explain to them a few times that they would make a lot more money if people felt like they were getting a bargain!
I once found an obscure philosophy textbook in my local one for 15 pounds! I imagine I was the only person who had ever considered buying it as it was in a subject I was interested in, but not at that price :-).
I think they benchmark against the cover price, but don't take into account that it is pot luck what books they have in. So you're very unlikely to find a book that you have been looking far. Which means they rely on impulse buys and very few people are going to spend that sort of money on impulses.
Oh and telling me "don't forget it's all for charity" doesn't wash - I am convinced they would make more money if they charged competitive prices.
I'm sure you're right there! I am addicted to buying books from charity shops and often see loads I want in Oxfam but I begrudge paying £3 for a paperback I could get cheaper brand new! They would have a had a lot more money from me over the years if they were reasonable, instead they've had next to nothing. I do feel a bit guilty because it's for charity, but not too much as I have a small monthly DD to Oxfam.
Having said that, I did go into an Oxfam Bookshop on Hogmanany last year, found 31 Agatha Christie's for my collection, asked jokingly for a bulk discount (cheeky I know) and got the lot for £25 which I was delighted to hand over, a good way of spending my Xmas money:j0
