I tend to buy from ebay over going to charity shops now. The local charity shops are basically tat and lycra!
I have got some really good bargains on there. I am trying to wear less dull clothes as I am in a bit of a rut. I discovered that I really like Boden clothes but not Boden prices. Slightly worried that it might be middle class mum clothes but I like them anyway. Who wouldn't like a skirt with appliqu!d birds on it?!0 -
i love charity shops. I have favorites, cat charity in Llandovery has a lot of tat but when they have good stuff in they only ever want 20-30 p for things!! I got a pile of books up to my chin for a quid!! love it, second fav is st john ambulance in risca came home with a carrier bag stuffed full of wool and boys Next brand new body warmer for £3 and the volunteers are lovely. Only 1 shop I avoid is 1 in blackwood and the old lady in there shouted at my son when he picked a toy and accused us of stealing he was only 18months he was so shocked!!
Currently mooching around for crochet hooks and size 3 roller skates as i want to do some exercise
forgot to say also bought in penrith mind shop a goat skin rug for £10 love it!!!
i will say colour coordinating instead of sizes very annoying, i don't even look at the clothes if they are like thatI have dyslexia, so get used to my spelling and grammarMortgage pay off date 11/2028. Target 12/2020 :rotfl:

I think I know which shop in blackwood you avoid! I havent seen her in there lately - but I dont go there much myself! tbh - she has volunteered there for years - but I believe her mental health is deteriorating - she forgot how to use the till the last time I saw her in there and actually let me behind the counter to do it for her!!!0 -

That makes a big difference. But I really don't like colour blocking in a charity shop - there is only one of each style of item, several shades of the same colour, etc. The range of styles and colours in a charity shop is actually greater than in a regular shop as virtually every single item is different. Colour blocking, unless it's black, does not produce a proper "block" in these circumstances.
Not sure if your chain is a CS chain or not. Just my twopennorth.
Yes it is a chain of charity shops. Our garments are by type, blocked into colours then sizes. I like all charity shops so I don't care how they are displayed, I just love a bargain. However we do have the best reputation in our area for the look and prices so our customers are very happy. I'm sure there are some who prefer it the other way but the better takings speak for themselves so we are very happy this way
We are also a smaller charity and have some amazing donations so by ignoring because you don't like the look, you could be missing some amazing finds. Fair enough if you are in a hurry though
If your local shops are putting every single red item together, for instance, that doesn't make sense and probably wouldn't make more money.
I bought a very cute pumpkin outfit for my nephew this morning and some lovely vintage knitted blankets for our bed. Now on the look-out for fancy dress inspirationNot been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/1550 -
I just got a terramundi savings pot for 50p on the local mind shop, I've sanded all the naff words off it, painted it in F & B mizzle and put a nice ribbon round it. It looks lovely.Cogito ergo sum. Google it you lazy sod !!0

Went into Oxfam in Leicester yesterday for a browse and was amazed to see someone in front of the books scanning the barcodes on his phone and seeing how much it was selling for on amazon. He then turned to me and said its actually cheaper to buy on Amazon than it is in Oxfam. I found five books I liked the look of but after seeing the prices I simply put them back. One book I liked is currently selling on Amazon for 2.95 yet Oxfam priced it at 4.95.
I do find that local charity shops such as air ambulance and local hospices tend to be a lot cheaper and staff more friendly (especially to my 4 yr old laddie).
Such a shame as charities are missing out on their stupid pricing system which isn't fair.0 -
Today in the local Salvation Army Shop I got a 100% lambs wool cardigan for £2. It is mans St Michael but will fit me, lovely pale blue shade and so warm! Got DS a t-shirt for 30p (a Next 'Itchy and Scratchy' one) in one shop and a book (old Roger Hargreaves 'Chirp') for 10p from another.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.
Encouragement always works better than judgement.0 -
I wish the salvation Army would stop putting the kids clothes in colour order. I don't have the patience to stand looking through all the sizes on the actual clothing because they arent on the coathanger/tag - I would buy loads if they did them by size order... I really don't see the point of NOT doing size order.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
50p: Christmas presents £3.50
£2: holidays £2.000
