A cat's natural diet wouldn't contain 97% meat anyway, so this is hardly a balanced diet!

Actually I think this is pretty much the amount of meat a cat would eat in the wild, cats are obligate carnivores and only need about 5% carbohydrate in their food.

I served up the haddock in jelly tonight, and realised that the main ingredient is chicken. Didn't smell like fish at all. Buddy once again did his scratching routine next to the side of the plate and walked off none too pleased!

All the Bozita variants are described as complete, however they do seem to be a lower in fat than is often recommended. I assume it depends what your interpretation of 'meat' is - in the UK we think of it as being muscle, but only fairly recently did the legal definition change to exclude offal (see below). It appears from the Bozita ingredients that Sweden still allows offal to be described as meat in pet food. :)

The main change has been a new European definition of meat for labelling purposes, which is different from the definition currently used in the UK. The new definition defines meat as 'skeletal muscle with naturally included or attached tissue', and sets specific limits for the amount of fat and connective tissue (i.e., rind, tendon, sinew, skin etc.) allowed (see table below). The definition specifically excludes MRM, feet and trotters, tail, and head meat but includes cheeks (Masseters). It also excludes non-muscle cuts such as liver, kidney, heart etc. Products are still allowed to contain all of these ingredients - they will just need to be described differently, and they cannot count towards the declared meat content.

i bought some bozita yesterday at crufts, both some dog, and luckily some cat varieties.

my very picky kitty seemed to so far really enjoy his rabbit chunks in jelly, and the dog (non picky) was sniffing all up in the air and was very curious while i opened the package. and then she wolfed it down.

the test will be though, if the kitty will eat it again tomorrow.

the package doesnt state feeding guidelines, but it is available on their website.

but i did notice it doesnt actually say what the meat content is, just more than 4 % . and their own website doesnt have any tins?

The tins are still 97% meat content, the main ingredient is lungs instead of chicken! I am pretty sure the tins don't contain the 'Macroguard' that is supposed to be an immune booster, but it is not essential (might be good for an FIV cat).

The tins are quite a bit cheaper £2.40 per kilo on Zooplus; chunks in jelly are £2.90 per kilo; pate is £3.20 per kilo. You can get the chunks in jelly for £2.48 per kilo and pate for £2.56 per kilo from Seapets tho.

Here you go Bethie. This is what Firefox has said they are :)

sorry, should have been more clear! i was referring specifically to the bozita website, not zooplus.

the bozita website doesnt currently have 'tins' down as something they are offering. and, on the back of my tetra cartons it doesnt mention what % content is meat. it just says 'high meat content' 'up to 93% meat' and meat > 4%.

i purchased them direct from the swedish bozita sales rep yesterday.

I am going to risk sounding like a parrot again and tell everyone to get the TINS! Ok, first ingredient may be lungs but it is an incredible product far superior to the chunks in the tetra packs ( IMHO) It looks and smells like real meat, my gang like it with quite a bit of warm water added to soften the dense texture and bring out all the delicious ( barf ) aromas.
