Neff and Siemens appliances are the same. The Siemens ones cost more because of the name. but there both made in the same factory.

Neff, Siemens and Bosch then. Same company, probably the same factory but not necessarily the same specifications. We did go for the much cheaper Bosch though

It's not uncommon for manufacturers to make a slightly modified version of a product and tie up an exclusivity deal with a chain store in a country. That way the shop can say "exclusive to us"

Indeed. This is also a cunning way of avoiding having to honour any price-matching promises, even if the two items are obviously the same thing in spite of their brand and model number.

I think that Aiwa is made by Sony. I was looking for a radio CD cassette and found two identical looking models - one was Sony (£59) one Aiwa (£29). And of course if you search for Aiwa on google you get Aiwa.com listed as copyright Sony Corporation 2003. I assumed Aiwa get the cheap components and Sony just own them but perhaps not.

Yes, Sony absorbed Aiwa in a merger back in 2002 - http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press_Archive/200209/02-0927E/. Before that, though, the links between the two companies were very strong; Aiwa used to build from old Sony designs.

A good friend of mine used to work in salmon canning factory in Alaska. They canned almost every brand of salmon going. He remembered canning tesco and other English supermarket brands. Is all salmon the same???? Well apparently NOT. Buyers from different companies would order a canning run at certain times of the year, when the salmon was better quality (not knackered after spawning). I can't tell you who's is best I am afraid. But I guess the point is that even though the same factory makes for everyone, there will be quality differences.
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!
  • these brands are NOT always the same. I worked in a tinned food factory (Simpsons) for a while when I was younger. We made own brand Simpsons foods, as well as Asda, Sainsburys, Tescos etc. Everything from Thai curry, hamburgers, deserts, stewed steak etc.... There are different ingredients, and processing times for the different brands. Representatives from the various companys also used to visit, and there were different levels of "panic" when we were given short notice about a check. (I'm sure you can guess who were the fussiest)
