    Hi Yummy Mummy...

If you were to do it full time 9and earn decent money), you'd have to have a very large area.

My manager has told me that the average with Betterware is around £1 per book. If you put out 150 books (like I did today), you could expect an average of £150 of orders. This would give you £30 commission.

Of course that £150 average may be higher or lower but using that as an average, to earn £150 a week say, would take you putting out 750 books a week. Each catalogue is issued on a six week cycle so really you'd need an area with 6 x 750 houses = 4,500 houses.

If another Betterware agent has a better idea or if my figures are wrong, feel free to correct me.
  • Hi everyone,

Just had a meeting with my area co-ordinator today and start tomorrow :D She was very helpful and friendly and have been given an area just down the road in quite a nice area so all in all pretty happy.

I was just wondering how many hours you have to realistically have to put in? Just so I know how to plan my time really.

    Thanks everyone,

    James

Not sure I'd agree about that last post after today's debacle...:(. Here's some stats...

    Books out - 150

    Books in - 110, still out - 40

    Orders (x3) - £20

Not quite the start I wanted but there is the possibility of another order tomorrow...:). What made it worse was that I got a puncture on the way back from town earlier and had to do the entire round by foot as my spare is a smaller than normal tyre due to my car being an LPG conversion. (it's a long story!). Wouldn't have minded but I can only really carry about 60 books in the bag so I had to go back for the rest later on. :(

Do you have to pay for your orders up front?

    How is the commission paid?

What happens if a customer changes their mind about an order?

    thanks

Hi there, I'll answer as best I can though I haven't actually ordered anything yet...:(

I'm pretty sure that it works like this. Say one week you get £200 of orders. The co-ordinator delivers them and you get seven days to collect the money in. Earning 20% on the orders, you'd earn £40 so when the following week comes, you just pay your co-ordinator £160 instead of the full £200.

Customers have the right to cancel their order, I'm guessing that you give the money and reimburse them from your sales the following week.
  • spot on.

    NO minimum order!

We got set up on the weekend so hoping to get our books out tonight. We've only been given 120 then collect them in Friday. Already got a £40 order so just £110 to go before we can place it :-)
    spot on.

    NO minimum order!

Beware of the Area Co-ordinators telling you that there is a minimum order, or that they won't take smaller orders, because they don't feel it is worth it for their time (I think they get around 10-12%). Don't let them fob you off with this, and point out that in the contract you signed (which actually really just states that they agree to sell you anything for 80% of the catalogue price - their way of making sure it's worded in a way which makes you self employed, rather than working for them), there is no mention of a minimum order.
After all, you can't refuse to take a customer order because they have only spend £1.99 and only earning you about 40p, even though the same amount of work is involved for you as a customer who has spent £100 earning you £20.

Part of the reason I stopped doing Betterware was that my coordinators (a husband and wife duo) used to p*ss me off so much!
The first time they tried to refuse a smaller order, I just made up a couple of expensive items to add to it, then put them straight back with my returns the next week! More work for them!! :rotfl:

I did Betterware for a while when I dropped out of Univerrsity and moved back home, while I was looking for a proper job. Like everyone has said, you get back what you put in, so the more time, effort, but above all the more friendly you are, the more you are likely to earn. Also, even if it doesn't go well the first time, persevere as people are more likely to order once they know you are reliable, and come back when you say you will etc.

For anyone planning on doing it all on foot though, don't forget to take into consideration delivering the orders. You can't carry as many goods as you can catalogues, and there are a few big items that would be difficult to carry even on their own. I used to have to enlist my partner with the car in the evening - which then meant I used some of the money to make up for petrol, thus cutting into my earnings.

The way I looked at it was that at that point, all I had to offer was my time, so even though I didn't earn a great deal, I had nothing to lose as my time wasn't worth anything else at the time! Nothing to lose! And I probably lost half as many Lbs as £ that I made because I did it all on foot.

Oh, and don't fall into the trap of looking through the catalogues too much and wanting too many bits yourself! Although there are some interesting bits, and things to make life slightly easier, and the bits I bought weren't as bad quality as some people think - but a lot of it is just cheap plastic junk, there's things I've seen in Poundland, and you don't really need lots of the useful things! (Obviosuly we don't tell the customers that!!)
