Tories pledge to ruduce public debt

Love labours response!
Shadow chancellor George Osborne has promised that a Conservative government would work "flat out" to deal with the UK's budget deficit.
In a speech in London, he said public debt was "likely to be the cause" of the next economic crisis, adding there was "no choice" but to deal with it.
The deficit, expected to be one of the key themes of the general election, is expected to rise to £178bn this year.
The government accused Mr Osborne of "talking down Britain".
The key thing here is that an independant audit will be carried out, and future growth to tackle debt factored in.

An emergency budget would be held within 50 days of a tory government.

The public sector pensions bill will be reduced, and the age increased.

Labour have attacked him for putting the recovery at risk and not having a plan to deal with the deficit (?! as if labour have - its like groundhog day, tories tell people what they gonna do, labour simply attack everytime about not having a plan).

Vince Cable has said this is political dogma and could undermine the recovery.

nevertheless tha IMF does seems to be warning about too rapid reduction in debt plus a few other independant economic bodies.

I'm also curious how an 'independant audit will be taken' if we have already decided to reduce public sector pensions etc. etc.
I guess 'independant ' can mean anything at all ... will it include the 20 or the 60 I wonder.

It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

I thought Gordon was waiting for a war with Argentina, so he can cancel the election and be a hero?

Well it's allegations. So whether true or not I don't know.

But I'm not sure how much difference family should make in politics.

Which is why I was so against Brown and his blubbing on TV. However, look at Brown's brother!

I don't really like George Osborne from what I've seen, but to be fair to him he isn't responsible for how his brother behaves.

Osbourne is out of his depth - he's getting shown up each and every time that his plan isn't credible.

the only people that seem to back him and think that his ideas are the correct ones are the anti-Brown people on this forum

    I agree Cleaver.
Osbourne has not beneficial characteristics about him imo. As a shadow chancellor he has been an epic fail. It even appears that his own party have tried to get him out of the spotlight.
Any tv interview he gives is car crash tv. You're just waiting for the gaffe.
