Revenge of the tailgated!

I discovered a simple £20 solution to tailgaters.
My auto electrician mate, simply wired up one of the blank buttons on that dashboard directly to the brake lights.
A simple push of the button sorts them out.
Always wanted to do this however the nasty CANBUS in my current car would no doubt take a fit :eek:0 -

You don't even need to go to that trouble, most brake lights come on well before any actual braking is applied, ie right at the top of the pedal. A light tap of the brake pedal with the left foot while still using the accelerator works for me.
Irresponsible, probably but maybe they dont realise they are tailgating:p:p:p:p:p, on the other hand.
I must admit I do have on of those led messaging rolling banner jobs in the rear window of my car, as featured on Top Gear. I should say I used to have as I now never use it as they are very confrontational but a good laugh. My normal message was "Please tailgate, I need the compensation"
As said not recomended for anyone, like using a mobile, toooooo distractive.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

It's been interesting to see how heated and personal these exchanges have got.
For my own peace of mind, and to ensure I don't contribute to the carnage on our roads I will take on board some of the pretty savage criticism by a minority of posters of my behaviour. I also note that there has been a lot of support.
I get 'wound up' by tailgaters because I feel threatened and intimidated by them. I feel chased & pursued and it's scary. I feel pushed to go at a speed that's doesn't feel safe for me and don't always know what to do if it's not safe to let them pass.
I have learned something. In future I will try not to react and simply do all I can to let them move on.
That is your most sensible post of the whole debate0 -
I alternate between two cars, one of them is quick and other one is, let's say, it is challenged when it comes to acceleration! I usually stick to the speed limit in both cars. However, I get people tailgating me sometimes. When I think it is suitable for them to overtake (Straight strech of the road, or no oncoming traffic that I can see ahead), I take the farthest left I can so that they will have a good view of the road, and if they decide to overtake by signalling or moving to the right (if they forgote to signal), I start to slow down a bit by taking my foot off the accelerator as they pass me to make it quicker for them to finish the overtaking. This way, I am in reasonable control of what is going on and almost everybody is safe and happy.
In my daily commute, the country lane I drive in, becomes dual carriage way for a mile or so, if I am in the slower car, I always take the left lane to build up my speed while allowing other users overtake my slow car. No point taking the right lane from the start with the aim to overtake a lorry while others can do it much quicker.
Just do the speed limit and you won't be in the wrong if somebody is glued into your rear bumper, just take the most left part of the road to help them see ahead and overtake you safely if it is ok to do so. If you go slower (without REASONABLE reason) then don't be surperised if you see a queue building up behind you and hand gestures when they overtake you.
Those who drive the same speed virtually regardless of the speed limits, are usually, most of the time, Older people or diesel owners trying to achieve the maximuim possible mpg out of their cars, they seem to be anyway, which is wrong IMHO, but each to their own.
Happy motoringBe nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -

I sense much anger here. I have experienced the odd nutter driving too close for comfort but I either speed up or get out of the way. I see no sense in getting so angry, I have no time for 'revenge tactics' and I just let the idiots get on with it and get out of my way.0

But the actual problem is the period of time that you cannot let them get on with it. All this time they are putting you at risk:eek:
Sound post, but why the hell would you want to speed up to get out of their way, that is the intended result a tailgater wants, ie, to make you drive faster:mad::mad::mad:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
