Faulty TV

6 weeks ago I bought a 50" plasma tv from Dixons (online) for £650. Over the past few days, I have noticed a red pixel on the screen, and also the whole screen flashes randomly. Yesterday it flashed so bad it turned the TV off (at least that's how it looked).

I spoke to Dixons about both problems.

Regarding the pixal, they won't do anything as it's only 1 pixel, and it needs to be at least 2, or a cluster (depending on who I spoke to).

Regarding the flashes, they offered to take it into their warehouse to repair. Now I have 3 problems with this:

1) If they take it into repair and the screen doesn't flash, then they won't do anything
2) They will keep the TV for up to 4 weeks!
3) Most importantly to me, even if they do repair the TV, I've only had it 6 weeks, and don't want what will effectively be a reconditions / repaired TV!

Can anyone help me with my rights on this? Do they have me over a barrel?! They said if it had happened within 28 days, they would have replaced... but it's now been about double that.

Thanks :)

Who's the manufacturer? Maybe you'll get a better service contacting the manufacturer directly for a warranty repair.
  • LG is the manufacturer...

Surely 4 weeks would cause "significant inconvenience to the buyer", especially if the TV was the only one in the house!

    SoGA;-
    Section 48B
"2) If the buyer requires the seller to repair or replace the goods, the seller must— (a) repair or, as the case may be, replace the goods within a reasonable time but without causing significant inconvenience to the buyer"
Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition

  • So any recommendations on what I should do?

I would either contact LG, or speak to dixons again. if they say they will not do anything for one pixel, then i would start the writting. write to head office and let them know you are prepared to go to court. they will say "go on then" and if it takes a small claims case to get what you want so be it. Dixons will not go go court.
If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.

    Try via the manufacturer.
And the real lesson is, don't ever buy anything from DSG.

Having a TV is rarely essential to one's life. What the consumer may perceive as 'significant inconvenience' is not always that.

Besides, it's 'up to 4 weeks'.
