I had a bit of a chat with the OH last night and he has promised that once I am debt free we will start saving for a ski apartment in Morzine.

The plan is to save a £30k deposit between us over 2 years and then get a mortgage for the rest.

I'm still not sure how I feel about having a mortgage, as I am so adamant that I never want to borrow a penny from anyone ever again. However, if it enables us to fullfil our dream and actually have something together, I think I can learn to live with this.

So this is yet another incentive to get debt free by December 2011.

Roll on December 2011, but I bet it's sooner. Wonderful news Woowoo, really really pleased! I think a mortgage is ok to have, good point about it being linked to an asset. If you'll let us, we'll rent your ski appartment ;)

One of my friends is overpaying her mortgage, my OH thinks that isn't the best move because a mortgage is usually the cheapest borrowing you can get, so it's better to save/invest and earn higher interest than pay the mortgage. Discuss....

I've never looked at it that way, but your OH makes a good point.

I have been trying to get my OH to overpay his mortgage so that we can both be debt free. Looks like that won't happen now anyway.

Of course you can rent my swanky new apartment in the French Alps lol! For mates rates of course x

  • Will he be able to get a 2nd mortgage or will you need to rent it out to get a mortgage?

I think he will get a second mortgage easily.

He is very good with money, shame it never rubbed off lol!
