Making cards - Ideas for beginners (part 4)

Gosh isn't it warm and I decided to do some tidying up and cleaning in the two hottest rooms of the house! Had great fun last night at a Stampin Up Make & Take with Skiergirl to launch the new colours, we made a pretty post it note holder and bookmark and then spent too much money. It was on things that will last though like a couple of punches etc so that's how I'm justifying it.
Gemma - I just wanted to say you need to do what's right for you, somehow the money does seem to sort itself out. Before I had the children I worked for a Financial Advisors as an Office Manager and was the only full time member of staff which means I was the one that always seemed to cop it from our delightful bully of a boss. I ended up off work due to stress whilst pregnant and unfortunately suffered a miscarriage, I am not saying this was a result of the stress but I certainly don't think it helped. I lasted one day back in work before handing in my notice as I just coudn't cope with it. I then got a super job part time and 10 mths later DS arrived and I've not worked since. OH is self employed and we don't have much money but we are happy. I wanted to be the one to bring the children up and OH loves doing his landscaping and gardening. Life is too short to make yourself ill over a job you don't enjoy. If you tighten the belt you will manage. You are so talented I am sure you could make enough money from the things you make to at least keep you in materials. As Rusty said have a clear out and make some money on ebay. I do this every September/October once the kids are back at school and it pays for their Christmas presents. Make presents for birthdays/christmas and let people know you are cutting down. I don't smoke, rarely drink, and don't spend much at all on clothes so crafting is my one vice. Could you perhaps look into doing some training for something you do want to do.
Sorry if I've waffled on I just feel so for you and know how you feel.
Right need to get dinner sorted as swimming lessons tonight and then I have a full Governor's meeting, lovely 3 hours shut in the staff room - yuck!

wanna-b - fab challenge card
PONR - fab cakes
Choccy - lovely purple card, well done for having the patience to cut it all out. The frond punch is lovely too
Tired Mom - lovely cards and nappy cake
Artydoll - lovely card
Padster - glad you enjoyed the show,, hope you have a good week off and enjoy playing with your new stash

Gemm - hugs to you. I originally left work because it was making me so unhappy and stressed, so I know what a difficult decision it is. As others have said 'Lifes too short' and if you can manage financially it will be worth it for your health. We've had to adjust to losing my salary which is why I can't spend much on craft stashbut I've just started mystery shopping which is bringing in a little. Hope tomorrow goes ok x
Rusty - glad your pain has eased a little, long may it continue x
JuJu - sounds like a great weekend. Your tiles and jewellery are lovely0 -
Hi everyone. Flying visit tonight as we've been out all day on a trip to Anglesey. Not yet read any back posts or blogs but thought I'd mention that the new issue 22 of Creativity mag has been put on this website today. I've just ordered mine, 141 left but they go so quickly as it's free p+p. Not sure how it happened but a Cuttlebug embossing folder fell into my basket as well :rotfl: .
Hope everyone is OK. Weather has broken here, we had a lovely day but it started to rain on the way back and now it's steady and quite heavy. At least the garden will enjoy it!
Forgot to say Skiergirl sorry, I didn't get back in time to post your card today, I'll pop it in the post tomorrow.0 -
Evenin all - have been a very busy bear today lol!
Tidied up after I threw the other 2 after the door sat down to catch up and watch Jeremy Kyle (helps remind me I'm almost normal LOL!) and then cleaned the oven. 3 hours later............... part of which was spent cleaning up the kitchen after all the mess I made - it's not perfect but think we should now be able to cook in it without risking a visit from the Fire Brigade :rotfl::rotfl: I've also tidied out most of the kitchen cupboards and thrown a bin bag of stuff away including some Ryvitas that were out of date in 2007 :eek:
Made my I did it creations DT card which you can't see till Friday and tried out the paw print punch on a bookmark with the digi I won in the challenge furry mentioned I won - haven't taken a pic of it yet so will do that tomorrow.
Printer was being an !!! and printed my digis on the paper that it should have used for backing paper rather than the card that was on top thought b***er it will try colouring them anyway and discovered there was hardly any bleed at all :j:j- so stuck 2 fingers up to Craftwork cards. :rotfl: So if you can get hold of any Tesco Finest 120gsm Printer paper I suggest you give it a go - only £3.25 for 250 sheets. Plus if you get it with your shopping it doesn't count as stash in my book.
Fingers crossed the pain keeps reducing Rusty
Can't remember what else I was going to say but hugs to anyone who needs themOfficially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended

I know what it was - Gemma - hope it goes as you wish tomorrow - I know you've discussed working less hours with your boss but if they don't offer you VR but they need to make cutbacks try asking again - it's what works for you that's important - would probably be better to work 3 whole days rather than less hours every day if poss.
As the others have said you soon learn to manage financially I took VR in 96 and started working part time and although it was a bit of a shock to start off with it really changed methen I had DS in 97 went back for 6 months and then chucked it all in until DD was 6 months when I just worked 4 hours on a Saturday morning and that was the best job I ever had :rotfl::rotfl:

Tomsmom - Thanks for magazine link, there are now 102 and one on the way to me.
Just back from a 4 hour governor meeting and am now on the panel to meet Ofsted when they visit in the Autumn term sometime :eek:
Right cup of hot choccy calling and then bed as my brain is mushed. Isn't it nice and cool though with this rain.
