Like Char says, there's something really rewarding about make do and mending.
I put a couple of nights aside a month to repair jewellery, polish shoes and mend clothes. Makes you feel very virtuous (especially if you've got something diverting on the telly and a glass of something nice).

I do enjoy mending clothes but I've not got the patience for glue and jewellery pliers :(

I know what you mean, Alex...luckily I've a willing bloke at hand, otherwise I'd end up gluing myself to my earrings!

    Swap Daisy? :)

I'm always fascinated by reading books where people are doing piles of mending. I rarely have anything that needs fixing and most of my clothing is of the cheap and cheerful variety.

well by mending, i also mean / include adding and customising things, or alterin clothes i've bought which don't quite fit..

ETA - alex i was reading thru one of the *really* old guide badge books the ohter week, and there were badges for doing all sorts of things you would just never even think of doing now..

Oh I can't do any of that sort of stuff :( Suppose I can hem trousers etc by hand but I wouldn't know where to start with the rest of it.

I remember my hostess badge in Brownies - passed it with flying colours but it's clearly not stuck as my usual attitude nowadays is to provide a large bottle of wine and that's it!

I actually did a Flower Arranging badge in Guides :rotfl: We had a delighfully old fashioned unit - I started off camping in proper ridge tents and digging latrines!
