Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Hope you sleep better tonight Daisy. I did have a bit better sleep last night but I was still very tired and wanted to curl up on my desk this afternoon!

PF if you lived near me, I would thankfully send it over!

    Girls, I need your help.
The background - DH's brother is nothing like him, he's agressive and rude, a real chav (that's being kind) his fiancee is the same, but she's slim and pretty.
We'vre been good to them regardless, given them some lovely baby things (their son is 1 now) and thing for their house, invited them round to dinner, made them a meal for when they came home when their son was born, and cakes too. Honestlt you can't say we haven't tried.
Well basically they just are not interested in being friendly. They didn't send Dylan a card on his birthday but came to the party. They are just rude and drive me mad. They're living with DH's dad as they messed up paying the rent on their house so the family paid the debt of and thy're now sponging off him, going out using him as a babysitter all the time. But he's not seen Dylan since Xmas.
In a nutshell we've had enough.

At the last family wedding I'd had Dylan 6 months previously and had only just got back on my feet from being ill so I looked terrible, had no sparkle and was really overweight. All anybody thought to talk to me about was how slim "the new girlfriend" was and wasn't she pretty. So I felt really fed up.

So now they've set a date for the wedding, it's in 6 weeks time. I know I'm not going to enjoy it. Their chavvy mates and DH's familly are going to wind me up, not to mention her family who were rude to me and Dylan at the baby shower, derrogatory comments about his ginger hair etc.

All I can do is look and feel great and rise above it. What am I going to wear? I want to look lovely just to give me confidence to stand up to the nasty comments this time and just be a bit more myself rather than feeling horrible and hiding in the corner.

I know this is a massive rant and not like me but I am hugely stressed.

BTW this is the first I've heard about the wedding today, apparently their getting it all paid for by a TV company. Maybe it's going to be like the "big fat gypsy wedding" but a "big fat chavvy wedding"?

They sound awful Vicki!! Do you want something super classy, or eye poppingly glam? I don't know your dressy preferences but I think you'd look gorgeous in a beautifully patterned maxi dress and there are so many to choose from at the moment.

ps - you and Dylan are both gorgeous, don't let their petty comments get to you.

Vicki don't worry, you know you put together sone fabulous outfits and you will outshine them both by far.
They're family, so it's not like you can avoid the wedding, all you can do is rise above them, let them have their day in the spotlight (or cameras or whatever lol) and rest safe in the knowledge that you've done what you can for them, regardless of how they may have reacted to it.

I don't think I've even been to a wedding since I was a kid / bridesmaid, but if i were to go I guess i'd wear a dress, heels and a stoal / bolero type shrug, and it's the perfect opportunity for one of those fancy up do's you manage so well, finished with a fascinator or feathery headband or something...
  • Aw, Vicki, hugs to you.

They sound infuriating, I can understand your frustration. And how DARE they make remarks about ginger hair - grrrrrrrrrrr. It's one of the most beautiful features in the world. And Dylan is a gorgeous looking boy. Oh, I'm really wound up now!!!

I'm sure the other girls will give great advice on outfits. TBH, I'm still in jeans every day and never go to formal things so have no idea what's appropriate.

What I will say tho is that you do and will look fabulous. You are very pretty and have a lovely figure - you'll look absolutely great in whatever you decide to wear.

    xx

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Silly people Vicki.

How keen is your dh on the whole event? May I suggest a demure outfit and slipping out as your pudding plates are taken at the reception?

As for dylan's hair, its beautiful. I love all shades of red, cooper, strawberry and even ginger. It is the most beautiful hair colour IMO, and I'm terribly envious of red heads.

Oh thanks girls. I hope you don't think I'm a total mental case with "issues", they really are all fundamentally awfu, throw in some booze and you have the idea.

I want to look classy and lovely, something that nobody can laugh at or pick holes in. I want to feel confident and happy. I haven't had an occasion to dress up for since my "makeover" and it's totally out of my comfort zone. I'm going to see the doctor about my skin tomorrow hopefully and the sun on holiday should help too.
Anything that is slimming and hides my mummy tummy would be perfect. I've told DH that I'm buying a new outfit or I'm not going!
