Queenie, you've just described the Health At Every Size movement whether you were aware of it or not. I honestly think that in putting ourselves down and comparing ourselves unfavourably to others, we're doing no favours... health and self-image should NOT be a competitive business, and it makes me sad and sick to see it treated as such. I love this thread and its little community because it's so supportive and non judgemental.
Sadly though that is the society we live in, we're told and shown daily what we *should* look like, it's a consequence of our capitalist society, thin = success, wrinkle free = success, new car every year = success, and so on. It's all bull but we all buy in to it and I can feel myself sliding off into a marxism rant so I'll stop myself there.
I have heard of the health at every size movement, and I agree with some of the principles, however I don't think it is something that would work for everyone but again food/weight related discussions is something else I can get quite passionate about so I think I'll leave that one there too
I agree about this thread, it feels like I've got loads of sisters, who while they are lovely and caring they are also not afraid to be honest which I like. Straight talking is good*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150 -
Echo Alex's comments about dieting.
My mum has just had a hip replacement (arthiritis possibly due to being overweight) and my dad is undergoing cancer treatment (he's a bit overweight too) - bless them both though ! They're relatively young (56 and 61) so my weight loss this time round (and hopefully the last time I'll be doing this !) is mostly for health reasons and partly 'image'.
BMI is rubbish IMO - I'm 5ft 7, weigh nearly 14 stone and when I tell people my weight they usually drop their bottom jaw to the floor ! I think I 'carry' it well but it's not a healthy weight. Got to 11st before and everyone said I looked very gaunt and ill. I'm going by size this time (ideally want to be a size 14). I'm probably one of the most healthiest people I know, I walk every day, eat fresh fruit and veg (from our allotment) and make sure I allow myself treats from time-to-time (for my mental health of course
). Most of my friends/neighbours/family eat carp and get no exercise but they're all smaller than me - just doesn't add up !
Interestingly Jo from (supernanny) was on TV the other day (advert) and was saying that 6 yr olds are now conscious of body image and preferred the model to the more voluptuous figure .:jWeight loss to date 1st 11.5lb :j0 -
yes i agree..i'd rather be told that something looks awful, than have people tell me i look nice to save my feelings being hurt..and i think most people would really..
and i totally agree, i've relied a lot on the people on this thread recently for advice, and i am really grateful for it! xx0 -

After lurking on this thread for a bit I've decided to post and share a bit about me.
Reading post and looking at your blogs I think you are all very stylish and seem to put together gorgeous outfits everyday. I'm hoping some of this will rub off on me.
I'm 24 and feel I'm just starting to get an idea of what I like, what suits me and my own sense of style.
Over the winter I've mainly been living in tunic dresses and leggings with my (fake) Ugg boots. I wear a uniform everyday for work, so often just come in and put anything on without caring. Now I think I will start making an effort in the evenings even though I'm usually just in the house.
After looking at this thread I've realised I've mainly been missing accessories so over the last few months I bought some cheap accessories like belts and jewellery as well as looking at what I already have.
Any tips or hints from you guys would be great and I'll update you on how I'm doing. Maybe in time, I may even start my own blog.piratefairy wrote: »I need new leggings on saturday, no idea why but the cheap primarky ones seem to differ so much between pairs on size and feel..so will have to be more careful which i choose this time!
Oh and re: coloured tights- I've previously bought them from Tesco and Primark.
