Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 24th February. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS lovelies, wave.gif
6.gifMorwenna hon! Hope you have a good day.
welcome2.gifrabbit8587 - Good to have you with us. So sorry your life has been turned upside down hugs.gif, but you sound very positive and it's true, everything happens for a reason.
N9eav - Those chicken breasts sound delicious, good effort there!
Sunnyday - My cat politely requests a transfer to your house to help eat all that tuna.. and I think I might come along too as I love the stuff.. giggle.gif And I love that lil 'foodie' smilie too, as you can tell from the fact I am using it every day when I list my meals..giggle.gif Hope the wine turns out well.
Mioliere - So nice to read you and catch up on how the renovations are going.
Topsy - hugs.gif
Donny-gal - always love reading your adventures too.
JackieO - enjoy the steak nights.
Penpin - Thinking of you.
flutterby - Glad you are feeling better today.
Taplady - Pleased to hear the funeral went as well as it could.
snoozer - Really glad you liked it! Hope all goes well for your hospital appt today.
Ladyshopper - Hope you feel better today
nic1 - Your OH made me smile, sounds like something mine would have done once upon a time.. I am really glad you enjoyed the quiche.
Jackie - How lovely of you to adopt her and it sounds like she was meant to be with you.
SunnyGirl - huge congrats to your husband! woohoo1.gifAnd I am glad the course went so well.
I managed to pot up all my seeds and they are all in my ready made greenhouses. (clear plastic freezer bags with the seed trays placed inside, blown up with a straw as I tie them closed so they are puffed up and keep my soon-to-be lil babies all warm and snug!) Probably sounds odd, but it works. I will just untie them every two or three days for watering. I planted chillies, peppers, tomatoes (upright and trailing), carrots, pumpkin, butternut squash, red onions and salad onions plus an assortment of flowers.
HShungry.gifBreakfast today is weetabix and saltanas. Lunch will be my cheese savoury mix sandwiches again and dinner will be stew defrosted from the freezer. I need to do some baking today - Some peanut butter cookies I think to use up the odd bits of PB in the cupboard (my OH likes Sunpat and I have the organic natural no sugar type so we end up with half jars sitting there forever!!) and some cheese straws.
Ok, the BM is making the house smell malty so that should ping soon which means the day has really started.
I hope everyone has a good one and that anyone feeling poorly head%20cold.gif feels better soon, including me! With love, light and warm gentlegrouphug3.giffor all.

  • Good morning all

So sorry not to have posted for a little while.... life gets in the way sometimes doesnt it.....
Had a few stressful family things going on plus have been supporting a friend who is having a really difficult time lately.... I will try and read back over a few days to catch up with things but please forgive me if I dont get the chance! I do hope everything is OK with you all .

MSD - well done with getting your seeds planted , I cant believe where the time is going this year , I had planned to have had so much done by now in the garden but all Ive managed to do is buy my seed potatoes and they are all merrily chitting away. I really must get on with some sowing .... ! Mmmm peanut butter cookies sound yummy, am hoping to do a little baking today myself, need to get testing a few recipes for Weezl.

We've got our second (and free this time) fruit/veg/salad box coming this morning from the 5-a-day people. Had the first one last week , maybe I should have postponed this one as there is just soooooooo much in there but will make up some batches of soup from whats left rom last week and most of the veg will last well in the fridge anyway. It's really helped up our veg intake which we had let lapse a little lately unfortunately.
Brekkie today will be muesli, lunch - hopefully some home made soup and a sandwich or some toast and tea will be either chicken and cheese quesadillas or chicken/tomato/pesto puff pastry open tart type thing !

Right had better get on , need to get some washing in the machine and feed all the pets and have a further browse on here....!

    Take care everyone x
  • Morning Diva & all to follow......where are you all? :rotfl:

Didn't get on here yesterday, don't know where the time went. Had a nice lunch out with my sister, OH & dad as it was sis' birthday.

Today need to get my head down in the office this morning, DS is playing a football tournement for his school later. I will telephone this morning to make sure its on as its still very wet here and pop along to that if it is.

Chicken, jacket spuds and salad tonight followed by ironing :(. Think OH is going to do some housework as he is home today :j Only miss a couple of days of doing little bits and at already looks like a tip

Hope no rain today, most of the fields round here resemble lakes now and there is so much mud, roll on spring.......

    Have a great day.x

Wow Diva sounds like you're doing really well with your seedlings etc. I've got some potatoes on my windowcill that I'm trying to get ready to put in the ground - just have to wait until this frost and snowy weather moves away.

Money saving wise I'm reusing Sundays chicken today to make two lovely pies - one for the freezer and one for tonights tea. DS2 at home today so we'll go to the library - I'm trying to keep him off the wii. Then have dogs to walk and have to get ready as we're off to see my poorly MIL at the weekend.

Was woken up this morning by the birds singing - a lovely treat and something I will look forward too tomorrow! Lots of hugs to anyone who needs it - isn't it nice that spring seems to be on the way. x
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning all,

More rain due today, could really do with a dry spell for a while, am not sure I will get a lot of veg planted this year, as there is so much to do in the house. Yesterday I painted the kitchen from khaki / olive green to a cotton white, the difference it made is amazing its so much lighter now, I will need to do another coat at the weekend, if not two, but it looks great :T

Off to work today, dinner tonight will involve pasta, and some veg that I cooked up the other day, mushrooms onions toms etc, I also have a small pot of leftover vegie chilli, so might mix this in with the pasta too.

I must say the two week shopping thing is going very well, I may just manage three weeks from it, I will need to get fruit and veg, but other than that we are doing wery well ;)

Need to take out the rubbish and recycling today, and have a quick tidy before work.

Rabbit, nice to have you with us, what a horrible situation for you xx

    have good days all xx

    Morning all

Love and hugs to those who are sad or poorly.

Wet and dreary here this morning. OH already left for work but not at stupid early o'clock so I got up with him and made him porridge. He went to a meeting last night and did not get in until late so only had a couple of slices of fruit tealoaf and a mug of tea at 11pm. Dinner for me and DS1 was lasagne and salad and for DS2 it was sausages, potatoes and veg. Dinner tonight is going to be pork chops, mash, veg and gravy.

Have managed to keep the washing basket at a manageable level by doing a load and putting it on the airer, as the heating is on may as well make use of the heat!

Just have to work until lunchtime today then I'm done for this week, but have quite a bit to do over the next few days so will keep busy! Am hoping to make some soup as an experiment so I can vary my lunches, as I seem to have stalled in the weight loss- need another 1lb for a total loss of 3 stone, and have been stuck at the same weight for 3 weeks!! Think I need to kick start the weight loss again.

Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

    Morning All

Day off today - blood tests at 12 and x-rays this afternoon so I need to get a few MS jobs done this morning so they day isn't a total wash out financially!

Couple of the jobs I have to do today involve buying eggs so I think we'll have Omlette chips and beans for dinner. DH had a good idea to do a pizza style one that's finished off in the grill with cheese and pepperoni on top.

Need to make sure I have everything in the spreadsheet that I need in to pay this month in preparation of pay day tomorrow (:j) and do a quick scout round the freezer to see whats in there and in the cupboards and make a start on the shopping list/meal plan

    Have a good day

  • Good morning everyone, yet another grey damp day here today.I have the man from Virgin Media coming this morning to hopefully fix my catch up t.v. service. The soundtrack is running very slow and has been getting worse for a week.I keep getting automated calls asking me if I still need a technician to come .Well I doubt it will cure itself, so I just keep saying yes.
Then I shall make some sausage rolls this morning for my DGS tonight when he pops his head around the door. One of my other DGS Jack is 10 today so I will be going to my DDs this evening for dinner with the tribe and take his present along with me.Our gentle Jack is a dear little soul who is a very lovable and caring little boy. When I took him to school yesterday he was so excited about his birthday today I am going to give him a ring in a minute so he can tell me what he has had so far for his presents. His Mum has swapped her day off so she can be home today to make his chocolate birthday cake and be there to pick him up from school.Although she has five children each one has a HM cake on their birthday and the choice of what they would like for dinner. They are all made to feel that their birthdays are special, even the next two boys down who have birthdays two days apart in June which is nice .
Basil has been for his breakfast and is happily flying around the garden.I haven't spotted Mrs Basil yet she seems to stay in the big fir tree at the bottom of the garden and is a lot shyer than her noisy brash OH.
Well time is getting on and I'd better get dressed in case the techie chap arrives early
have a good day everyone and <<hugs>> to those who are feeling down or poorly
    Cheers JackieO
  • morning all

I'm feeling a little bit human today! :j I slept for a full 8hours last night which was lovely. I don't feel anywere near as wobbley as yesterday. And no back ache :) I managed a bowl of cereal too last night, and another glass of water. Think I may brave a coffee today. The only 'good' thing about this bug is that I appear to have lost 7pounds in less than 3 days! :rotfl:

I've put the WM back on from Monday, and will have another load to go in later if I feel up to it. Need to put BM on too, but not sure if I can cope with the smell at the moment. I'm going to try spend the day doing a few easy things if I can rather than stay in bed/on sofa cos I'm bored of that. I've read 2 books already!

    Have a good day all

    morning!

JackieO - happy birthday to Jack! - sounds like he's going to have a lovely day! Glad Basil is ok, my bird feeding station has some frantic activity this morning as I've put a stale scone out with the normal bits. My robbins are tucking in well!

Redruby - all your painting is making me want to 'freshen' my house up a bit. Might start once I get paid.

flutterby - glad you're on the mend, its a week nearly since I went down with it and mu tummy is still not back to normal.

(((hugs))) to Diva, PP, flutterby and all the poorly ones x

    plans today are

clean house - have done kitchen floor and replaced the dog bed. upstairs clean and tidy. WM is on. a bit of ironing for this afternoon. This morning I'm cleaning at Mums. Compiling a shopping list as I've a free delivery owed me at Asda but not payday till tomorrow so will get it ready for then.

hope you all have a good day x
    Do what you love :happyhear
  • Morning all, thanks again for all the kind words. Must try getting more sleep as fallng asleep on the train right now. It is really hard because it felt like fate that we found each other coz we were so well matched in so many ways. I don't know what different path life wants me to go on but I was blissfully happy on the one I was on thanks! I'm trying just to take each day/ hour as it comes really because that's the only way I can cope at the moment.

All your talk of BMs and dinners is making me hungry! I think my mum is bringing over some kind of ready-to-cook meal tonight which is neither MSE or OS but it does the job. Hope everyone has a nice day xx
Thank you to all posters :A
