...erh right?
:D:D
I'm going with a friend to Woking for a football match in September and wondered if any of you lovely people know what sights/things to do there may be in and around Woking?
I'd also be really grateful if you could point me in the direction of a cheap (but ok!) hotel, I tried to get a travelodge, but the nearest one was in Guilford & that was unavailabel
.
sooooo:
What delights are there around Woking (we'll have a car, so fairly mobile)
Should I abandon the idea of staying in Woking and try Guilford instead? Are they fairly close?
What's there to do in Guilford?
Any ideas about where to stay/eat/see in Guilford OR Woking?
thanks in advance for any ideas!

I am afraid to say I live in Woking and, lovely place that it is (!), I'd stay in Guildford
Woking is infested with chavs and kiddies who want to fight all the time. There is a Travelodge and a Premier Travel Inn in Guildford and there's far better bars and restaurants (try The Angel - possibly a little pricey but the food and atmo is spot on) there too. It is only about four miles from the ground into Guildford so don't worry about that.
What game are you to see and how long are you down for? What are your interests? Perhaps I could suggest something for the Sunday?0 -
Thanks Craig!
We are going to be seeing the Rushden & diamonds match - coming down on the Fri pm/ Sat am and staying to late Sunday.
We like anything, so parks, churches, theatre, eating, shopping and whatever else a getaway in 'the country'
:D has to offer!

guildford is fab for shopping, lovely town centre with cobbled streets, castle, views of hill/fields, great restaurants and pubs.............the weyside is on the canal further up from debenhams...........spend sunday reading the papers, eating a meal then walking it off along the canal.
otherwise lots of good country pubs in the area(get a copy of the good pub guide), combine with walk. enjoy..............i love guildford!0 -
Yeah, that ^^
I'd love to move overseas personally but, presuming I were to stay in this area, my next house would be in Guildford I'd like to think. It's a nice place.
I used to work in a village called Chilworth which is just about a mile or so out of Guildford. There was some really nice pubs and walks out there. And you could get a train from Guildford station (two stops) if you wanted to have a drink.0 -
There is a Holiday Inn in Woking - never been in there (I live just outside Woking) or another real dump just above the Big Apple "entertainment centre" - believe me, you wouldn't want to stay there...Some of the pubs may do rooms - will have a think.
Agree though that it's best to stay somewhere else!
There is a Premier Travel Inn in Guildford which is just off the A320 to Woking. http://www.premiertravelinn.com/pti/hotelInformation.do?hotelId=23965&rw.cm=,PPC0 -
Actually if you do want to stay in Woking (for whatever reason!) there is an Inn keepers Lodge off Horsell Common which is quite a nice place or a Premier Travel Inn which is just around the corner from me. You could probably walk from the latter to the ground quite easily (there is no parking at the ground) too. Definately avoid the town centre ie Holiday Inn and the horrendous Big Apple where you'll probably get stabbed! We really are doing a great deal of good for the Woking image, aren't we! Personally I'd stick with Guildford0
