Is it worth getting water meter

I enquired recently about having my 1st meter installed and water co can only offer an indoor meter that requires someone at home for readings Can you not supply a reading yourself ?- due to a shared outdoor stopcock.
Not keen - this is 2010 after all and I was almost expecting by now smart electronic metering or something. Can they not offer a touch pad or do you not want the cable running through your home ? Smart meters for water are a new thing and some companies are testing them now but they are not put in as standard just yet.
Will my refusal to accept this prevent me from getting a reduction on the current £400 for a normal semi / 2 occupants?
If you don't want a meter then you will have to stay as you are on RV. Assessed is for people who can not have a meter fitted and clearly you can.
If the meter is internal then I really can not see the problem..Give them a reading yourself, they will either leave a card if you are not in or you can do it online or over the phone.
Same as most electric and gas ones I guess.

I am with The Portsmouth & Gosport Water Co. for Fresh Water and Southern Water for Waste Water.0 -
I am puzzled by the sewage charge being so high. I thought that sewage charges were based on "what goes out depends on what comes in".
I also live in the South and pay by meter; 84p per cubic metre for water, but only 55p per cubic metre for sewage. This works out at about £220 per annum for two people in a 4 bedroom house.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

The story continues. Had an inspector assess and recommend an indoor meter, on which I was not very keen, wanted an outdoor one. Deferred the decision till plumbers had been and done major works. While working they pointed out to me that I had not one but TWO water mains feeding the house and 2 stopcocks.
Had 2nd inspector in from water board, he agreed that a meter was unfittable in this property.
Went back to Thames Water for an Assessment to get the £380 odd bill reduced. While before I had been clearly informed that a semi could be on an Assessed rate, today I am informed that it needs to be a single occupancy house to qualify. This seems to contradict what I was told originally.
Anyone else know?0 -
Sorry, can't work out the connection between a semi and a single occupancy? A semi could have one person or ten living there. Does this help?

Your semi with 2 occupants should be either Band 2 or 3 depending on the no. of bedrooms. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Found that page already thanks and confirmed that I was being told twaddle by Thames water. Called them back, now they cannot find the latest inspection report.0

Does anyone know what an indoor water meter looks like? I've been told by Thames Water that I can have one located in my bathroom where the indoor stopcock is but I want to know what it looks like and how big it is first. I've tried searching google and Thames Water website but nothing.
