£5 spend on squash & milk (OH drinks a lot of the former - I've switched to water to compensate!) plus £2.20 for OH's cereal & random purchases. I say random because he likes to bring back odd things we don't need, but at least they tend to be from Aldi so it doesn't cost very much!
Bargain of week from the big shop a few days ago was definitely a pack of 6 Muller Light yoghurts (the ones with the chocolate in) from Netto - £1.25 for the lot!Mortgage: [STRIKE]08/13 £28,896.49[/STRIKE] 01/18 £00 -
How can you get jelly from arrowroot? Surely arrowroot is a thickener rather than a gelling agent isn't it? Would it actually set?
Wouldn't you be better off buying some gelatine (supercook or leaf) and mixing that in with the juice from the peaches? I've done that many a time and oft and it works fine. Arrowroot I generally use in eg blackberry and apple - you know if you cook foraged blackberries you effectively end up with blackberries in blackberry water, and adding sugar and arrowroot makes it much more pie-filling-y....Would you happen to know if it adds a terrific amount of calories to the things you put it with?
The dietician has said to use cornflour to make white sauces for lasagne & things, so you save a few calories on the fat & flour presumably, but I've not made them that way either. So recipes please, if you would be so kindI must have a look at the site for Mr Titchmarsh afternoon show, as Rosemary Schraeger [sp] used cornflour in some sort of cake muffin recipe the other day...

CherryPie - the lamb navarin from Economy Gastronomy is meant to be nice? I don't often cook with lamb with it being so expensive but I do like a slow roasted shoulder/leg when it is on offer.
I have finally done a meal plan - March is mapped out nicely. With DH stopping drinking and cutting down on smoking the trips to the shop are so much less frequent which has helped with fritter spends. I have done a big T order for next week with a code but it is mainly cat and dog food which is on offer. Some good bargains in the co-op again - £3.50 for the 42 wash non bio gel - persil I think, and 50p for icing sugar. Thanks to whoever mentioned the olive oil for £2.50 as well.
Best bargain of the day was fresh dates at 50p per kg! Over £10 per kg in the greengrocers so I think someone at the garden centre was a bit confused - with my best honest head on I did query it but she was adamant it was right so I have a huge bag in the fridge, nom nom nom.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
