No, what I said has been misinterpreted. I only agreed with the principle of the last part and then asked if the church would help them out if they had been in need of food. I'm not being judgemental.

For the record I post on here in a personal, not professional capacity.
    Ok, fair enough.
You do have your job in your sig so I guess people will just assume that if you are happy to broadcast that, then you should just be a bit careful what you say ? Not meaning to be cheeky, I realise it is not always easy. I always said I'd never give advice, or anything that could be construed as advice, outside of work, as it was too dodgy imho. As it is I only started coming on here April 2008, and gave up work as a money adviser in April 2007! All the best money advising- challenging but fun at the same time lol!

and in relation to the sky packages, a basic sky package would be acceptable in some circumstances, such as if they were within a 12 month contract, which if they cancelled would mean they would be liable for the whole remaining term. If it's more than the basic package though, creditors may ask for the package to be reduced.
Yes I agree, my point is if someone can decide a general rule for Sky (as you quote) then why can't a similar rule for tithe be put in ? I respect that not everyone is religious but in some faiths it is very important, regardless of what anyone else says!

A lot of people on here know me and what I do anyway. I did have a sig stating that I don't post in a professional capacity but I would never 'advise' in that way on here.. I only go by the info I've learnt and discuss it etc. I've been on this board longer than I've been a money advisor :D lol t was actually this board which made me want to become one... I know what you mean though. It's difficult to keep a balance between the 2 isn't it! I would have to give up posting on here totally if I weren't to give advice! lol

Completely agree.. there should be at least some guidance on it (and there may be..). Just wish I was at work and I could have a mooch through the debt advice handbookas I'm intrigued now! lol

    Hi. :)

I've sent a PM to the CCCS advisors who post here asking them to take a look at this thread.

Hopefully they can comment on their policy regarding this and DMPs.

At least one of us has got their thinking hat on today, thanks Fermi.
Will be interesting to know the answer- hope something in this thread helps the OP.

Hi OP! Hope all is OK?

Not sure how tithing works exactly, but perhaps you can advise your church that you will not be making the payments to them for the next two months, but will resume afterwards.

That should allow you room to save up enough to pay off this creditor and then carry on with the DMP. You wouldn't have to tell the CCCS this, just say that you have been saving what little you can for months and thought it best to pay off this creditor as it is quite small and now proving to be problematic.

In the meantime, you could offer your time to the church instead, perhaps?

I'm sure your local church won't want you to risk ruining the DMP and should, therefore, be willing to help in the short term.

    Just a thought.

Otherwise, I fear you may have to reduce the payments to the church permanently as the creditors would view it as an 'unnecessary' charity donation. I'm afraid there is little room in business for religion and so they will never take this as seriously as you do.

I hope you find a solution one way or the other.

Just supposing I was paying £1000 a month on a DMP.
Just suppose I suddenly become religious.
This religious fervour makes me put £25 per week into collection box.
Would they knock my DMP payments down to £900.
I think not and with good reason.

Perhaps we should all wait until we hear from CCCS person before making any more comments one way or another ?
To the non-religious it seems silly to pay tithe, to the religious they are commanded to do so!
