Paid By Paypal Collect In Person

Hi
Just a quick one. I sold an item on Ebay and the buyer paid by Paypal and selected "collect in person". They have zero feedback so I am trying to protect myself from a Paypal claim once they have gone off into the sunset with the item. Can I ask them to bring ID with them with their residential address and also sign something to say that they have collected the item in person? Would that protect me against a claim for something like damaged in transit or item not received? How do I word it to make sure I am covered?
Cheers

There is nothing at all you can say or do to protect yourself against a paypal claim.
Pesonally I would ask them whether you could refund their paypal payment and pay cash for a small discount instead.
I'd also check them out on goofbay, make sure they look OK. If it;s an electrical or baby item though of any value then i'd be tempted to refund and insist on cash and take any neg and non performing seller complaint they make.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Not what I wanted to hear...I will ask them for ID and whatnot and hopefully if they kick up a fuss I will cancel the transaction...or they will do what I request and perhaps turn out to be honest.0

I'd agree with Soolin, although I didn't give them the option when that happened to me.
I refunded their paypal and asked them to pay cash on collection, rounded the sale down to nearest £10. Buyer was absolutely fine with it - she appreciated that I had to give myself protection in the sale as well, and she got her discount.
I wrote her a full receipt for the item, indicating full cash payment was given upon collection, so she knew I couldn't back out of claiming non delivery.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

shouldn't accept paypal unless you plan to post and have a tracking number.
If they start a claim you will lose your money and item.0 -

gavjbrown is of course very right, although you can't actually straight out refuse paypal for any reason on ebay (except motors). This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.

I am so sorry I have so many computer problems now I am at the stage that I am about to take a mallet to it.
One of the problems is that I will be looking at a screen, and when i look up it has reverted to an older screen, so sometimes i am trying to type responses to a thread and I've either shifted threads or I've reverted back to my ebay page and doing something dreadful with my auctions.
No doubt this will end up being posted on the D and D board.

If you noticed I even managed to quote someone from a different thread which should be nigh on impossible.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Send them a receipt tracked to the registered Pay Pal address.
If the open a dispute with PayPal just provide the tracking number...
Dont know if it will work but must be some loophole to protect yourself!
eBay say you have to accept PayPal (unless its a car/bike) but that leaves the seller with no protection, if the buyer pays by cash that leaves them with limited protection.
ebay need to look into this issue and create a solution!
Maybe somthing like:
1,Buyer pays by PayPal
2, PayPal email a code to the buyer
3, Buyer collects item and gives the code to the seller
4, Seller inputs the code into PayPal to prove that the buyer as been and collected the item
That way both the buyer and seller are protected.
Its simple and i dont see why it wouldnt work.0
