Wanted to have one of those birthday cakes that are made up of sweets only for my son's 18th birthday.
I've looked at a few on line and not too expensive but was thinking I might try one myself.
Has anyone ever made one and have some tips on it?
I did a search and couldnt find anythign about them on here which surprised me......
Doesnt appear to be that hard but wanted some tips for example....how do you start if off and make the actual base?

Just googled those and they look superb I know my DS would love one. I'm sure some people on here would be able to give some advice and then please can we have piccies. Could you use something like kitkats around the outside of a glass bowl and put a ribbon around to keep it all together and then just pile it up from there or is that cheating.
Sorry I'm not much help but I would love to hear other peoples suggestions.0 -
I haven't made one but i've bought a few . The ones i bought were on a square piece of card covered in foil . Then soft sweets eg marshmallows etc skewered on cocktail sticks.these are put round in a circle then the next circle was made from foam fruits skewered on cocktail sticks then another layer of mallow sweets etc then the outer circle was made with striped or red liquorice type strips . the tops of the skewers had small jellies on or foam mushrooms . The very centre and the top of the cake had sweet cigarettes, bon bon's , jelly beans , dazzle drops ,jelly sweets and strawberry or blue millions . pic of one of them here and here the second one was for a baby and had dolly mixtures and choc pigs instead of some of the harder sweets.Cross Stitch Challenge Member Number 20

Think you may have just solved what I'm going to do for my friend's 40th, she is mad on haribo's, marshmallows, flying saucers etc so this will be great, thanks Craftgranny for the links.0

Oohh, that's give me an idea, thanks! DS1 is 18 in June and this would make a great alternative to a cake!

Something I'm really looking forward to making is a pinata cake. I think I originally saw them on here somewhere but I'm not sure where. I'm still not allowed to post links but if you google 'cathryn jupp pinata cake' it is the first link. It doesn't look too difficult to make.0

That looks brilliant, with two very good friends having 40th's , my brother's 40th and my 2 darling children I think I'm going to be having a go at this as well as the sweet one.
The link, if anyone wants it is http://cathrynjupp.com/blog/?p=190 I hope I'm allowed to post that and if I'm not please remove this post and sorry.0 -
Thanks for posting the link, Tired Mom. I've had it saved for a while and really must try it soon. Let me know how it goes!
