    Thanks for your help and the link to youtube on removing and installing a new card.

    Will post again with the outcome after I have fitted a new one. I am sure I will then be up and running . I started out not knowing very much, but have learnt a lot on here.

    I am off now to Maplin.

    you're welcome, hope you get it working soon, although doing these sort of installations can make people realise that computers arent as scary as they may have thought. I only started out by having to swap a graphics card, now can build PCs and have completed my Cisco networking CCNA and CCNP courses..

    Sometimes I think I should have stuck with the minesweeper game and not tried anything else :D

    I installed a new card and now its working fine thanks to advice on this forum.
