Lan cable unplugged

this may sound a bit silly, but did the LAN cable click into place (at both ends) when you plugged it in?0

I'm back - go here (http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=GuidedPathHomePage) and follow the instructions. You are looking for the network card or NIC drivers
Thank you. I'm going to try this now.0 -
Getting ahead of myself here, but if that doesn't work here is your next port of call - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910389
Changing the speed (Duplex, half/duplex etc) as described about halfway down is the next most likely problem....0 -
To approach from a different angle: did you install your Belkin step by step as per the manual? I have known this sort of problem being caused by the router setup.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

Morning, Thanks for the links. I have tried changing the speed (Duplex), but this didn't work.
Thanks for all the replies. I'll try again today.
There were two drivers on the Dell site R105478 .exe and R105788 .exe and diagnostic INPENUXP.cab. I already had R105478 on my system. Not sure whether I managed to update the drivers properly, so will try again this morning .
Thanks once again.0 -

Thank you for your reply. I have been through the set up of the Belkin on the telephone yesterday with Belkin Help Desk.0 -

In hope we haven't missed the obvious - is the cable you are using known to be OK and has the PC ever connected successfully to anything else via a network?
Failing that, we seem to be in the more esoteric XP problem areas (my DD's Dell laptop has never connected to our home network). If you Google the problem you'll find millions of hits, many being techie forums with dozens of suggestions (eg http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-100254-network-cable-unplugged-but-isn-t). One suggestion that worked was to switch off the PC, unplug from the mains (and take the battery out if it's a laptop), leave for 20 minutes and try again!
If you have no success by the end of today, it might be time to buy a new NIC card for a few pounds and try that. If you do, remember to disable the on-board one in your BIOS.
If nothing else, you've learned a lot about your PC!0 -

Hello,
Yes, I have learnt a lot about this PC ! I'm ready to reach for the vodka bottle tonight.
I have fiddled around with the cable in the back of the desktop and can now get an intermittent light coming on which also lights up the connection on the modem. However, I can't keep the light on for more than a second or so. This also gets rid of the " Lan unplugged" message and icon. So, this now looks like a fault with the network card or connection and not the software.
I think I now need to take card out and reinstall, making sure connections are sound. If not, buy a new one.
Cheers!0
