  • ummm...why are you paying for it?
If she wants a £400 + dress then tell her thats fine but she will have to buy it for herself?
    seems reasonable to me

and I would suggest you dont let it stress you out anymore, just tell her to get on with it, find something she likes and feels happy in, at the end of the day on the day itself you will be much happier if she is :)

...I am worrying because she has spotted a BRIGHT (and I mean you need sunglasses bright!!!)

We are also looking on ebay because the ones she likes are £400+ and I'm sorry but my dress was only £250

Does your mum know what your colours are? By that I mean have you actually talked about it, and discussed the colours that she would prefer? Why not print off a colour wheel here and see what colours will actually complement your chosen scheme AND your mum's colouring.

Also, have you actually spoken about a budget for her outfit - not just dress, hat, shoes etc - rather than just saying "oh thats too expensive"...?

You may find that if she has boundaries put on her, she will rise to the challenge of keeping to budget AND within a colour range.
  • I'm shocked tbh that you're paying for it! And at that price!
Can you sit her down and talk to her? Forgive me if you think this is rude, but that is a lot of money for your mothers dress and she sounds a little like she's trying to outshine you (I'm sure that won't be possible). This is not her day, it's yours. Good Luck

We are paying for it because OH decided we were. My mum does a hell of a lot for us so it's a way of a thank you. Plus she's not working ATM so has no income

You have my mum completely wrong, if any thing she lacks confidence and hates attention!
I think we both have expensive tastes :rotfl:
I know it's my day but as I have just discussed with my OH it's a little bit her day because I am her only child and I want to be proud of her too!

  • Ok ... well in that case

maybe just sit and explain that you cant go over £x because you just cant afford it, so if she really wants something more expensive than that she will need to contribute the extra (some how)

Explain that you love her very much and you want her to look fab but you just dont have the extra money :)

Where abouts (ish) do you live, maybe some of us can suggest some independent shops for you to try?

Not far from me then, how about cheshire oaks or the lowery outlet.

    I personally love cheshire oaks

    Get a bus/train/tram?

Really, let your Mum wear what she likes and is comfy in (cost permitting, seeing as you're paying). She's there as a guest, not a matching ornament.

Like I said if we haven't found anything locally by June then we will have a girly day

I don't want her to be a matching ornament, photos last forever and I don't want her to clash!
