Well as a mob, a while ago i spent ages on the internet searching for a dress.

And i don't do dresses, i'm more a timberland boots and cargo pants girl.

And spending ages trying on dresses, that just didnt' suit, fit me or made me look washed out, i ended up very pleaded with the dress i bought.

I decided not to go with anything like the bridesmaids, as they was in pale blue, and i tried dark blue but looked naff in it.

I ended up going for a black and cream satin dress from debenhams, straight down to the knee, and a bustier type, i put a black bolero over it, a lovley black and crystal necklace, and a black and cream fascinator, finished off with a black bag, and black shoes.

i was unsure about the colour, as i'd been told not to wear black, but i was happy with what i wore, my daughter loved it, and i got lots of compliments about my dress.

I wanted to look nice but not outshine my daughter and i felt that i did that.
  • My mum looks fab in hats and has had great fun finding one for the wedding

She has changed her mind about what she wants to wear though. Originally she got a floral silk skirt and pink jacket which was nice but a bit 'normal' for her (my mum doesn't tend to do floral or pink, or normal 'mum' clothes... She is very young at heart, still pretty cool and the only person I enjoy going shopping with)

So this is what she switched to... (imagine it on a curvy lady with substantial bosoms)

Which is probably more her style but it seems a bit sombre for a spring wedding. I haven't seen it on yet.

    Any thoughts?

    oh dear

well my mum has picked an outfit that isnt the same as the colour scheme for the wedding but it goes with it...if you see what I mean

    Its a complimenting colours :)

I dont think it really matters to be honest, I would just say a complimenting colour is better so they dont stick out too much :D

why is she being a pain?

    Everything I like she HATES!

Our colours are brown and orange
Usually it's a complimentary colour to the wedding scheme and MoB gets priority for colour over MoG - traditionally but these days it's whatever you want! Just make sure it doesn't clash and 'fits' ie is quite formal if the wedding is formal or not so if you're more laid back, it's not even compulsory for headgear these days.
Take her for a 'personal shopper' appointment at Debenhams, they'll point her in the right direction and you can have some input too!

We've looked in Debenhams and we both don't like anything plus we are paying so really don't have the budget for it either :o

    Just think of the contrast!

I think that looks really elegant

Well there will be a contrast! Why not go with the flow, and suggest turquoise & chocolate and make sure her corsage is orange & chocolate? Then it won't seem so "different"?

Debenhams offer a free personal shopper service so you could get some ideas from it. Also tell them what the budget is and see if they can find something on the budget.
I tried it before to grab a better work wardrobe and she found me some great stuff in the sale.

how about this for you mum

i was just looking through the above site, littleoldme posted a link to it in her thread,

i would put a nice white, bolero with it, and a nice fascinator

i actually found some of the debut dresses in debenhams heavy, i found the satin material, was a heavy one, if that makes sense.
  • turquoise will go well with chocolate and there are so many shades, you may be able to steer her towards the paler end of the shade rather than the bright vibrant end.
I was really lucky and got my outfit on ebay! I'm a large lady and on a tight budget and was dreading shopping as I knew I couldn't afford hundreds of pounds but I was browsing one day and there it was! There's a pic on here if you want to see, just look for threads I've started. My daughter's colours are turquoise and brown but my outfit is silver grey lace.
If she does find a turquoise dress you can tone it down with accessories like shawls, jackets, bolero's and if the other stuff like shoes, bag and hair accessory or hat are in the 'accessory' colour then it won't stand out too much.
The thing is don't worry, it will all work out and you will not be worrying about your mum's outfit on the day! lol

I am worrying because she has spotted a BRIGHT (and I mean you need sunglasses bright!!!)

We are also looking on ebay because the ones she likes are £400+ and I'm sorry but my dress was only £250
