Sky Box for freeview abroad?

It's not anything directly to do with foreign TV companies, but Sky only own the rights to broadcast programmes in certain territories. If they knowingly allow people in other territories to access content, then they are in breach of their licensing agreements with the original copyright holders.
The foreign TV providers don't like it either, because is means that programmes they buy on licence for transmission in their own territories can be received by watching them on Sky. Which devalues their own product.
So I guess Sky have to be seen to have systems in place to prevent use outside the UK.No free lunch, and no free laptop

This is true. But how would Sky find out?
They won't because they do not want to, so that they pay lip service to preventing cards going overseas. Such subscriptions provide $ky with a steady revenue stream and tend to have subscribers who are low maintenance, paying the full whack, not haggling for discounts or wanting subsidised equipment.
If $ky were serious about stopping services outside the UK, Ireland and the Islands they could change the software in digiboxes to make them call in every now and then, just as a previous poster (wrongly) thought they did. For them to switch a card off a subscriber virtually has to admit that it is being used abroad.
That said, with BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and FIVE all free to air any digital satellite receiver can pick up these channels perfectly legally without any need to deal with $ky. Even Astra 2D, supposedly a spot beam, has plenty of overspill, including the Lisbon area.
RIP independent MSE.

If you mean a Freesatfromsky Card ( Freeview is via a TV aerial ) then you need the card in a connected receiver and the menu open with the system details on display.0 -
It can be found on the information menu screen. They might also want your name, address, postcode etc.C_Mababejive wrote: »When you ring to validate a freeview card what do they ask for and where can this info be found?0
