Hello everyone a010.gif. Welcome to the weekly spend challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track.

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever. clapping.gif

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her around last year

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x

Good luck everyone.action-smiley-033.gif

  • Morning all,

I have green for last week :j:j:j:j after a few red weeks.

I am going for £60 this week as I need to pay for my train ticket today, dinner on Tuesday night and a bottle of wine for bookgroup. This should be easily manageable so I hope to have some money left at the end of the week which is paydown woohoo

I have updated the first post with results and pledges from last week's thread let me know if I have missed anything.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend budgeteers.

  • Hi PP
glad to see that others get red weeks too (in the money sense IYKWIM).

What are you reading for your book group?
Do you think an online bookgroup would work- as mine has folded recently:mad:

Hello MM. I also used to be a book club which has recently stopped as well. I used to really like it but in the end I just didn't have time to read the books.

Good luck with your weekly spend challenge. I only spent £1 last week - was really chuffed - having had a couple of red weeks previously. Feel I am back on track at the moment.

    £80 for me please.
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.
  • Hi there,

I haven't done this before - I've lurked for a while - but feel this challenge is exactly what I have to do to figure out where my cash is going and get myself on track and keep spending to a minimum.

Can you put me down for £60 for the week?

That will include weekly shop for me and OH (will now be saver brands and shop's own brands for the first time! I've just started a work placement with homeless people and it shocked me just how MUCH you can buy for £10 if you really have to hunt for bargains, so thought I would give it a try too!). It will also include Petrol and any other spends which arent Direct Debits, etc?

  • I can't see why an online book group wouldn't work? The discussion would obviously be a little slower but should be ok.

Can I please have £5 this week? I am on lates all week so no reason for me to be spending money except for a couple of cards I still need to get and send. Am going out friday and saturday but a) budgeted straight out wages and b) payday friday!!

I'm sure it's just a huge coincidence but where is your placement? I applied for a trainee position a while ago but never heard anything.... still interested in it though!

  • Hi PB

I'm a Social Work Degree Student (paid for by my employer) and am on my 3rd year of the course, so we have to go outwith our employer to a new placement to be assessed - I will be there for 6 months and it's in the Glasgow/Lanarkshire area.

I'd definately recommend this type of work, so keep applying! - not only are you making a defference to people who literally have nothing (puts your own life and problems into perspective), it makes you more critical of your own spending habits, hence me popping up in here!

    :-)

  • Thanks.... the one I applied for is in London and they are meant to be shortlisting now so I doubt I am getting an interview! I'm studying towards a childhood and youth studies degree but anywhere in the vulnerable persons field appeals to me. I'll keep trying though, definitely!
