What about a taxi?
Lol, would this be one of those 'magic taxis' that can drive on roads covered in a foot of snow, when other cars and buses are stuck?
Think you've been having too much of the 'magic dragon'.
Although I do agree the op could have made a bit more effort.0 -

I'll guarentee you there was taxis running that he could have got from the house or nearby.
4-5ft of snow (which I think is an overexaggeration) wouldnt make roads unpassable.0 -
Don't forget that since this snow was totally unexpected, the OP will not have the clothing/footwear for walking 4 miles through 10 inch deep snow. he was staying at his girlfriend's house. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. 4 - 5 foot of snow would come up to the roof of my Renault Espace. I think that would make roads unpassable, except perhaps for snowploughs and monster trucks.0 -

He actually mentioned a foot of snow which is a bit different to 4-5 inches.
As the council would not have been prepared there is likely to have been very little, if any, snow clearance done even on main roads. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Thanks to everybody that commented with sensible and considerate posts.
I was asking for a bit of advice, not for "Anihilator" to come in on his high horse and to start wrongly judging people.
Just to clarify a few things.
1) I have a knee injury from football, and whilst I can walk on it; it is painful to do so for a long time at the moment, and in the snow and cold, it would be even harder.
2) My girlfriend lives in a village surrounded by farms and countryside, the snow on the moors on the road near her house, had snow drifts which were about 3/4ft high.
3) Cars could not drive down the street, people were struggling to get them out of their drives,.
4) The local radio station said a message from the council was for people not to travel if they did not need to.
5) I rang for a taxi, but no magic taxis that can drive on all sorts of snow on ice were available. I rang and was told "they cant get up there", and "the taxi drivers are refusing because its to dangerous", fairplay to them...it was dangerous.
6) I didnt ring work and say "I'm not coming in, end of.". I rang, and told them the situation and that I did not think I would be able to get in, and that I will keep listening to see if they put the buses back on if they could clear the roads. Which has not been done yet. My manager understood and had a little joke.
7) 1 thing I am not mate is lazy, so dont even bother saying stuff like that. I go to university 4 full days a week, as well as work Tuesday nights, Wednesdays nights, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. As well as revision, coursework, football, seeing my girlfriend, family and friends. I am not lazy at all, what is lazy is people who sit around all day on their !!!!!! claiming !!!!ing benefits which they shouldn't be.
8) Every other time it has snowed here I have gone into, when, a lot of people have not.0 -
Here are a few snaps of the area surrounding my girlfriends house, took this morning on my phone.
Snow-drifts at the bottom of drive

Quite nice pictures if I do say so myself:)0
