sky upgrade letter -what does 'grade A' mean?

Hi,

I'm looking for a bit of information, I know I can ring them about it tomorrow but I'm impatient and was hoping someone would reply.

Phoned sky a few days ago, told them I wanted to cancel because our equipment was not working properly any more.

(What happened was that the installation engineer a few years ago just threw the cable over the roof, with all the bad weather over the past few months the cable has been blowing in the wind and rubbing, water got into the cable and blew up our multiroom box and one of the connections on our sky+ box. I canceled multiroom months ago because they wouldn't fix the box for free and now sky+ is acting up I thought it was time for a change)

The lady at sky told me that she could help me out, so after a bit of chatting I got an upgarde to a sky+hd box for £30 with an engineer to come out and rewire the house. She said we didn't have to subscribe to the HD package and that we would get ITV HD and bbc HD for free, if we like what we see then we can subscribe to the £10 a month package after that.

So the letter today tells me that I am getting a sky+HD (grade A) box installed and that I have subscribed to a '4 pack' subscription (we currently only have the minimum 1 pack). Grade A to me sounds like some sort of reconditioned piece of equipment and she never mentioned that I had to take the extra 3 packs. I know it's only a few quid per month but I was just wondering if anyone knows how this all works.

Sorry for such a long winded post, I just wanted to give all the info!

Cheers

$ky's definition of 'refurbished' is a bit different from that in the concise Oxford dictionary, or any other dictionary for that matter. The best approximation is 'rejected by another customer'.

That said you will get a new LNB, the labour costs to install it and some replacement kit for £30.

Of course $ky will recoup it on the drip via their 3 extra packs tax (cheaper than the £10 HD tax) and by extending your contract by 12 months, during which time your bargaining power will be zero.

You own the receivers, so do not let the 'engineer' (engineer my a**e) take them away.

Incidentally, you can have them properly reconditioned for around £40, which you may wish to consider for your $ky+ box to make it actually better than new. I won't mention the company I use again, as it might appear I have an interest, which I don't. Look at my other posts for further info.

It's a reconditioned box, usually one that has been replaced on a service call & gone away for repairs,HOWEVER,in my experiences working for Sky,they use rhe word 'repaired' in the loosest sense of the word.

So is there any point in me ringing up and complaining about this, no-one mentioned reconditioned boxes on the telephone. I know I am getting the box and installation for £30 but if I leave sky and take it under my partners name then I will get a free box and free installation anyway, we just thought that it would be worth paying the £30 to get it done without any extra hassle.

She did say on the phone that it had a 12 month warranty and that I had a 30 day cooling off period.

Further to my last,Sky will offer reconditioned Sky+ boxes in your situation. What this is is a really old phase 1 PVR Sky+.now it may or may not have been one recovered from a service call. However it will be a old style box with little or none of the features of the more modern Sky+ boxes.

As for ringing up,I'd ring up & give off.Sky are currently offering a free Sky+HD box for £30 set up!

Opps..missed that! But again why pay £30 for a reco box when I'm getting a new one fitted in a week or so for the same price.

    But as it's a HD,I'm inclined to think it's a reco box.

Hi. I've just managed to get a free sky hd recondition box grade A out of sky, without the hd pack.

Cheeseslice - how are you finding your grade A box, any problems. Also does it still do the whole pause and record thing?

    Thanks
