Problems with nokia n97 mini - vodafone
Guys
Sorry if thishas been posted before, have searched but couldn't find anything
My daughter is with Vodafone and has the Nokia handset. The one she got new with her contract in Nov 09 developed problems after six weeks. Phone switching off, black lines across screen, problems with network and internet connection. Vodafone agreed to replace after I got involved last weekend. Replacement handset (reconditioned) arrived Tuesday. Problems still continue (no access to email and phone diverting to voicemail with no record of call)
Ive called vodafone again and am now on hold for 2nd line support as first line unable to assist (15 mins and counting).
Any one else had problems with this handset and anyone got any ideas how to get Vodafone to step up to the mark.

Well, as far as I was told by Consumer Direct you have a fair few rights under the Sale of Goods Act. See http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2283903 for what I did about my n97. Also be aware that obviously everything I was told, and everything I did, was wrong and didn't actually happen. Apparently. According to the replies.
Essentially Vodafone are obliged to step up to the mark by offering a replacement of equal or greater value, given that they have failed to repair or replace your handset with a working one. See Consumer_Direct for more details, and give them a ring rather than being sat on the phone to vodafone for hours. At least you'll then know exactly where you stand, and can tell Vodafone this when you call.0 -
The N97 is the WORST Nokia handset in years and is causing all providers a fair few problems. Regarding the replacement, have you updated the firmware, if not its a simple task, just go to the Nokia website, register and then use the Nokia software updater. This has been known to solve a few of the problems. In all fairness I'm not sure why the phone companies are still selling them. When in my mates O2 store yesterday I was waiting for him as he was serving a customer who, oddly enough, was almost insisting on having an N97 as it was what their daughter wanted. My mate kept repeating 'no really, if you buy it you will be bringing it back and shouting at me, please dont buy it'. Yet the customer still insisted...........'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.0 -
Guys, thanks for the responses. Confirm, have updated the firmware and handset still playing up. Stayed on hold for ages last night and eventually gave up the ghost. Called back today and was advised that Vodafone will send out another reconditioned handset...and if that fails they will do the same again and continue to replace with more reconditioned handsets until contract is due for upgrade. As suggested will seek advice from Consumer Advice. There are 4 of us in our household on Vodafone contracts, 3 in my name and all 3 due for renewal in the next month. Needless to say I won't be renewing them!0

i think people have been far to judgemental on the N97 mini. the mini is problem free on the whole compared to its bigger brothre the N97.
I Suggest that you contact Nokia freepost. send your product to them.. Put a covering note expalining all the problems... and they will normally fix it or send you a new handset! and normally within 1 week. .... if you send it recorded delivery its quicker than the freepost one... just get proof of sending..
vodafone like orange liek o2 like CPW never fix phones! they just dont know how tooo!! and normally they just do the firmware and master reset and send it back to yourself.....
Nokia will fix it.. just go to nokia.co.uk and go to repairs or service or something... otherwise you can go to a Nokia carepoint in london or one closer to where you live and show the engineer all the faults... they will fix it...
good luckkkk,, P.s the Mini is great .. its tne big N97 that is a load of crap... and im guessing ifyours in vodafone its gonna be locked onto vodafone... so that could be where your problem lies.. .they seem to never allow major updates until much later... ..
if the above scenarios are not idea... e-mail this the CEO of vodafone (put ur email with delivery receipt and read recepit!!!)
guy.laurence@vodafone.com is his email.. you will get a reply within one day most probably... and then tell them what you want.. and see what they can offer... u maybe be able to upgrade to a simialr spec fone.
good luck!! but i assure u the N97 mini is grreat... if you go via Nokia option they may send you an unbranded phone which is what u really want... if you email vodafone the best you will get is another handset but locked to vodafone and hence vodafones software!! which is prob where all the problems lie!... but maybe try vodafone once... demand a new handset..!!! and dont be conneddddd......

and while your there go get a new sim card!!! as sometimes these are dodgy and its just worth making sure that this aint the problem!... you can go to a voda store and they will do it there for u!0

Many thanks. Vodafone have now advised that the complaint has been escalated and to expect a call tomorrow, which in the words of the rep, should confirm delivery of a "new" handset and a reduction in line rental as a gesture of good will. Will wait and see what tomorrow brings and if the call doesn't materialise then will take actionas ns19871987 suggests!0

Quick update. They have replaced the handset with another new model and have reduced the line rental.0
