I appreciate they might not be suitable, but where a flood of light is not required I have replaces many of my 50watt downlighters with 1 watt LEDs. I find thses adequate, and blend with the LEDs at a fiftieth of the running cost. But as I say maybe not for everyone, but buy one and give them a try.

These are often at Lidl at around £4, and always at Wilkinsons for around £5

I know LEDs are brighter than halogen, but I think 1 watt would not give out enough light, shall give them a try. I understand B&Q sell 3.5 watt LEDs?

I've no idea where the third tier is from - I think the OP's three sections are more like two different periods. From his figures, there is a 1143 quarterly cap on the gas and a 225 quarterly cap with the electricity (that would be consistent with the excerpt published.)

That would make the annual electricity bill £499, not £746. So similar to/ a bit cheaper than WS 6.

The numbers are quoted directly from my last gas and electric statements. They are not two periods. I am guessing that the null band may be a mechanism to ensure bills for essential tarrif do not exceed those on standard tariff i.e. when the lower 2nd tier cuts in for medium & high consumers?

As I said AFIK essentials tariff is not listed anywhere. I do not understand how BG calculate my bills and that is why I am really struggling to make any meanful like for like comparison. :grouphug:
