If you google private property sales the top couple of results are like auto traders for houses.

Does private selling make sense from the buyer's perspective, when there's no regulation on what the private seller says about their house?

I haven't looked lately and I am sure they are but it needs to be something recognised by us all.

    Rightmove.co.uk
    Tesco.co.uk!!!!!

Probably makes sense for those with medium/higher valued property but not those who could already use a traditional agent for similar money

Why can't we just have an Auto Trader style website for houses, I think it makes so much more sense to do it privately, every house I have ever bought I offer to do it privately but the vendor gets scared

Doesn't this give you a clue as to why such a website or sites isn't prevalent?
  • Our local agent does all this for £499.00. Good local knowledge and is there every step of the way. Come on everybody get with the programme. Save money.

iSold will also be able to access the database of Tesco Clubcard holders for marketing purposes.

Will there be Clubcard points for those who sell through the service? Apparently so, we were told: the amount is likely to be about 5,000 points, worth £50.

Point 1 is quite scary - thats an enormous database or personal data.

Point 2 is disappointing - surely Tesco can give move than £50?!

Anyway. The costs of this 'undercutting' the EA service seem to be creeping towards that of a normal EA and when you factor in personal time its going to be very close overall.

Indeed. They give you a sale board. You have to put it up yourself.

You have to do your own viewings (unless you go for the premium package where a 'negotiator' will help you host ONE Open House event)

People, do you value your time? What's your hourly rate in your own occupation? By the time you add up the hours you spend on selling your house, and put your hourly rate on them, have you 'spent' as much as you would on a regular EA...?
  • Tesco have been threatening this for ages.

If they limit themselves to Bristol only with one valuer running around the country, then as googler says, this will not end well for them as they won't be able to offer a personal enough service.

If they were to roll it out in every Tesco, with an actual in store agent (and there are a lot out of work who would know doubt be willing to workfor them), then it could be a different story.

All the agents I have ever dealt with have been local and friendly (although a couple, as with any trade, have been less than desirable)
