Best paintwork restoring polish?
Options
Hi.
Just got a 2003 second hand car with great metallic paint in dark blue. I washed and polished yesterday, but there are lots of little blemishes everywhere. Some are tar and road dirt, some are tiny stone chips.
I used to use T-cut, BUT is there anything better or more professional for restoring paint....... ??

Polish will only ever be able to remove very light scratches and swirls, it wont do anything for stone chips, you'll need a touchup stick for that. To get rid of tar and built in dirt get yourself a clay bar. As far as polishes go I tend to use Autoglym.0

Always been a fan of Autoglym stuff myself. Not just the polish, pretty much all of their stuff is excellent.Fight Crime : Shoot Back.

ive been a fan of autoglym for years, but ive started using a polish called muc off miracle shine - gives a better shine than autoglym imo.
i would remove tar with a tar remover, then i would t cut the car "maybe use a coloured t cut"?
then finally i would apply a good polish such as autoglym or muc off.
i would consider using a touch up stick also, but i would do this before using a t cut or cutting compound. or do it in a few weeks?? also use a fine artist brush when applying the touch up instead of the brush that comes with it.
paint the stonechips in layers untill its level with the existing paintwork, then leave it to completely dry. say 5 or 7 days.
then when you t cut the car pay particular attention to the stonechip areas and polish it level/flush with original paint.0 -
I use autoglym aswell, i only do it about every 3-4 months though.0

My usual proper cleaning routine (1-2 months) is
Wash using a wash mitt + 2 bucket method (I do this every week)
Tar remover if required
Clay - using Bilt Hamber Autoclay atm with good results
Autoglym SRP
Collinite 476 wax (2 applications if time permits)0 -
I never polish my car, I wash it using Aldi Car Shampoo, it gleams.
Took it for an MOT last week, the MOT Tester said " you must spend half your life waxing your car ".. wrong.:)0 -

I do use Tesco Value car shampoo (50p a bottle, 3 for 2 sometimes) with some fantastic results - I don't believe in paying over the odds for shampoo.0 -
Aldi Car Shampoo is £3.99 for 5 litres, when they have it in stock, trust me, Tesco Value Car Shampoo is rubbish stuff compared with Aldi, like almost everything else they sell under their own label.0

Given my wash routines I don't need anything fancier - tried Autoglym and the like with exactly the same results. I find lots of the "wash and wax" type shampoos pretty poor.
I guess if you ONLY use shampoo then you'd want something a bit different.
I agree on the Aldi products being good thing though :T0 -
