The council housed you in times of needs others are in far greater need than you, you can afford a mortgage on 33k

I am sorry but I dont agree that council should sell you a house on cheap not when you get that sort of money

well said 33k and still in council house, still the system clearly is wrong

The system is definately wrong because if we packed in working, went on the dole and had a few more kids the council would probably give us more suitable accomodation.:rotfl:

And they'd be paying all the rent:rotfl:

Do councils really offer properties based on peoples income??

What's the difference between someone renting a private house, then moving into a council or HA house?

If someone is in dire need, they can take the private house and get help with the rent can't they.

I'll be freeing up a private house in 3 weeks to move into a HA home. I've been on the waiting list for 12 years and they know my/our circumstances.

In the future, if we could buy it, we would! Why wouldn't we?

I support you on this one. I live in a HA house and my partner and I earn a combined income of £40,000 a year. And no, i will not move out so somebody else can have the house. I am an assured tenant which means that unless I break the HA tenancy agreement the house is as good as mine.

Do I want to buy my own house? yes I do, but I cant because I CANNOT GET A MORTGAGE. 7 years ago when I was given my HA house I was not working and due to redundancy and unemployment my partner and I had CCJ's and defaults. Infact it is only in the past year we have started to earn good money and starting clear the back log of debts, because of this I CANNOT GET A MORTGAGE. I would love to buy a wreck and do it up but I CANNOT GET A MORTGAGE. And there is no way on earth I am moving into private rent, I am not paying double the money in rent even though I can now afford it. And no the council and HA do not kick people out of their houses because they work - it is quite ironic really, the council tenants get sl*gged of for being a workshy jobless !!!!er popping out kids left right and centre and now we get sl*gged off for going to work and earning - the horror!!

And when I finally do get a mortgage will I buy my HA house on full discount which i am entitled to? Not on your bleeding nelly. The HA is welcome to their house back.

On behalf of the normal people on here I apologise for the rude, judgmental and childish way people have reacted.

They should know that on a forum you never get to know the true story.

You may have been on 10k a year when you got that house you may well deserve. I am pretty sure most of them are jealous as they paid over the odds for a private house.

Its not your fault that the elected government sold off all the stock, and its not your fault you are allowed a discount.

Get your self a good broker and good luck.

Whereabouts do you live, £115,000 sounds expensive for an ex council house in the North East?
