sorry marla maybe you should look at his past ,as with us i was,nt on 56k when we got our house and you will find you have to have been a tennant for 5 yrs to make max discount ,he may have been kicked out by his parents ,girlfriend was maybe pregnant either way i would say he is more entitled as he works pays taxes ect , so dont judge someone when you no nothing about them,;)
Yes, maybe at some point in the past the OP was entitled to a council house, but we are talking about the current situation. Income of £33K, and £56K at the present moment means you should not be living in a council house!!! It is simply obscene! :mad:marlasinger0 -
What a good idea kai - Lets punish people for working hard and trying to make something of themselves.
And why should people on 33 to 56k live in cheap housing and then buy the place at a big discount? when there are plenty of people on minimum wage who could benefit from the cheap housing, but can't because people with lots of money anyway are buying them. Seems very selfish to me.
I never said people shouldn't make something of themselves, but when they have, properties should then be used for other people to do the same0 -

Nice!! I was expecting someone to jump in and make a lovely comment cheers!! All in good spirit eh:D
Background is I had another property with now ex partner. I've got three kids one is severly disabled, ex is a violent psycho:eek: I was forced to leave the family home with three kids, wasn't working at the time and was left homeless, literally sleeping on friends and families floors with kids for nearly a year before I got a council house. Said house was falling apart around me and has swallowed thousands to make it ok for kids etc.
Forgot to mention all debt from previous relationship was in my name so I also had £42,000 to clear with no income:(
Now got new partner and have five kids (thats were the money goes:p) this is a three bed end terrace. We cannot afford a four or five bedroom house anywhere near here!! You'd be looking upward of £170,000 so that vs what this place has already swallowed plus £58,000. It's a no brainer:)
I totally understand where you are coming from but I've had a really crap few years!0 -

Yip you are right indeed see my last post for said sob story:D
I would like to know were other posters live coz the whole of the north east definately isn't cheap!
Ex local authority in my street are worth £115,000 at the very most. My house still needs a tonne of work done and hence a pile of cash spent on it. It needs double glazing for a start as my windows are totally rotten and a boiler as thats past it aswell so you can add £10,000 to the cost straight off.
I think some people are a bit far off the mark with their opinions of these lovely cheap little councils houses that you can just buy and sell on as you please. IMHO it's more like buying a wreck from an auction only with this you can't sell it on!
This is my only option otherwise I wouldn't be here!0 -

So go and buy a wreck at auction, and leave this property for somebody that needs it.Gone ... or have I?0 -

many people/private dwellers take as their god given right to get a mortgage....you just have to read these forums....they forget they're borrowing other people's money....0
