Duh, I just remembered my best free food. I have two chickens and at this time of year they both lay daily, so 14 free eggs per week!
I know you have to feed and water chickens, but their food cost works out at less than 3p per day for both of them, and they're really funny pets too.0 -
So far this week I have picked 15lbs blackberries, with some help from oh and daughter.
They're being processed into blackberry jelly, blackberry wine and blackberry & apple pies.
Elderberries next!!We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.

I found a really good source of elderberries today, picked a carrier bag full, stripped them off and threw them in the freezer. I decided I need a preserving pan before I make any more jam and chutney!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

How about marrow rum? My Mum tells me her Mum used to make it. Very potent by all accounts0_o0 -
I picked 5lb of elderberries yesterday and made my 1st ever Elderberry cordial. It was really hard work as pan boiled over at one point and had to use old cotton pillowcase to strain but I am very proud of the results.
Also collecting lots of blackberries still and freezing to be used in crumbles come the winter.earn what you can, save what you can, give what you can :hello:0 -
Made loads of jars of Damson Relish using free Damsons (from a lane near me) Apples (from my friends garden) and Onions (that my dad has grown. Used Delia's recipe and have to store for 3 months before I use it but it tasted delicious. I'll be donating Dad and friend a jar, and will also be giving some for Christmas pressies. Still picking loads of Blackberries (they seem to be getting bigger as the weeks go by!!) and freezing them and also making making Apple and Blackberry crumbles. Going to have a go at Eldeberry Cordial next. I remember making this with my Grandma when I was little.0

MIL has just given me a carrier bag of apples - she received two bags full from a friend and couldn't use them all. Apparently the friend also has a pear tree which is heavily laden this year, so looking forward to getting some of those soon too0
