I'm planning on getting a 1.3 Corsa, but used not new. We only do about 10,000 miles a year mainly urban driving. I've seen plenty of people use the 'if you do over 15000 a diesal is worth it, but under you're better off getting a petrol. However I can never work out why.

Round here petrol is 109p and diesel 110p so a difference of less than 1%. Given that a 1.3 diesel will return about 33% more miles than a 1.2 (using what cars urban figures) then it seems a bit of a no brainer. Especially when people mention that better driving as well.

There is of course a slightly larger investment, but are there any other costs (or anything else) that I've missed?

If it has a Particulate Filter it may not like the urban slog. DPF can clog without motorway use leading to oil life being reduced and at worst a trip to the dealer for regeneration.

DPF issues can be overcome by taking it out on a weekend and driving it like you stole it for a few miles though :rotfl:
