These are highly recommended on the camping forums.
I just bought one but haven't tested it yet as it's down at the sorting office!

    How this is getting on?

Having a mosquito nightmare at the moment, we live on the river and it gets so hot that it's impossible to leave the windows shut and can't really put screens over them either, the past two nights they have been terrorising us, managed to get rid of 2 in the bedroom at about 3.30am with one of those electric fly swatter things but it's not making for a very good nights sleep at the moment!

    Might try some citronella candles...

I hate em, and kill em whenever I see them in the bedroom, and we have nets over all windows!

As for the above, I have eaten marmite every morning on toast this year, and have not been bitten once! Last night I even sat out in the dark garden in my shorts with no top on, still no bites - it could be the marmite!

But of course, as half the population (or more!) hates the stuff, it won't help everyone.

And by the way, every other year I have bites all the time, and i'm O blood group!
  • Having been accompanied by 'mozzies' in many parts of the world I can tell you the following works for us and others:-

Prior to visiting a 'mozzie' area take vitamin B complex tablets for a couple of weeks and continue taking whilst there.

If you want an immediate acting repellant use the Avon product SSS (Skin So Soft) - you will also smell nice.

I like those little gadgets you plug in a socket and heat a tablet or a bottle of repellent. They work well with me. Otherwise I use a repellent spray, but none works very well with me.

I used jungle formula in west africa and never got bitten once.

I had heard about the Avon product but never put it to test, heard the forces use it, how true that is I'm not sure, must ask my cousin what they used with the marines in Sierra Leonne.

ps. Apparently its the Forest fragrance dry oil spray you need with regards to the Avon product.

I was alwas led to believe the strongest DEET spray was the best, however just read this on a site...

'Researchers report that nepetalactone, the essential oil in catnip that gives the plant its characteristic odor, is about ten times more effective at repelling mosquitoes than DEET the compound used in most commercial insect repellents'

I find the best mosquito repellant to be "eau de ex-wife" one whiff and that's the end of them.
