If I dropped out of uni, what happens with council tax?

If I was to drop out suddenly, how would the council/my landlord know that I'm no longer a student
Do I sign a letter or a form to prove I am still a student
And say I did drop out of uni, could I still register with a local college so I'm technically still a student.
What do you think guys?

Saving money legitimately is fine. But dodging tax is not what we're about.
I think you'll find that when you first signed the form for Council Tax, you promised to let them know if your circumstances changed. Come on Ryan ... do the decent thing. Please!Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

You could just phone up your council and ask, posing a hypothetical situation. Not trying to be rude, but with this sort of thing, you might as well get the word straight from the horse's mouth. It's not going to make a difference in the long run, and do you really want to put your living arrangements at risk? At least, this way, you'll know what COULD happen, and you can then plan your life accordingly.
Not going to comment on the ethical issue, still too early in the morning and I need my caffeine, lol!
Cheers and take care.

DFC is correct. You have to contact the council and tell them your circumstances have changed. You will then become liable for council tax.
If you are on a low income, you then need to apply for council tax benefit and an assessment will be made as to how much of your council tax liability you have to pay.0 -
i work in admissions for a college and whenever a higher education student leaves, we fill in a form which notifies the local council that deal with the student loans and other fees.
i would assume from this, that the council will find out regardless of you telling or not telling them.
and if you enrolled with a local college and continued your studies, this doesn't count because you are over 18 and not in compulsary or higher education anymore.0 -
I might as well stay on at uni then.
Thanks for the tips0 -
This is possibly the worst reason for going to uni I have ever heard.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
