Thanks turbo and misskool - I think I will try pinching them out and also doing the wigwam. I sowed the seeds indoors in May last year (which is what the packet said) so I've got a while to go yet.
This weekend I'm going to start my tomatoes, spring onions and peas. I've also ordered my mini greenhouse from Wilkinsons (had to order it as cannot drive for another few weeks) and I'm very excited about that :j
Another question (!): my chillis and sweet peppers are all doing well, I think, but they're getting very 'leggy' and no first true leaves yet, just seed leaves. Will they be ok? They're still on the kitchen windowsill without any cover or heat.
Thanks to all for advice0 -

Just been thinking about all these seeds i have here, and i was thinking it maybe good to see if we can get a 'seed swap' going if anyone is interested - it would be money saving lol
I have packets of seeds that i have got for free on magazines etc that we wont eat and then i thave things like carrots that contain 1,000 seeds. Now i am never going to sow 1,000 carrots so just wondered if anyone else thought it was a good idea?
It would only cost the price of a stamp and if we swapped directly ie i gave you some carrots for some of your parsnip etc then it could work??
I dont think it is against forum rules, but maybe the mod for this board could let us know?
If anyone would be interested/has ideas then please post. It seems a shame to buy all these seeds and then potentially let some of them go to waste
If anyone is interested maybe they could post what they have to swap, and what they want in return? I will see what others think then go through what i have later
Just seen response to this.
If I see anyone writing "i want" and i happen to have spare I will PM:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I am new to all this too - had my first attempts last year - and have some questions that I hope someone can help with. I have the Poundland seeds for peppers (traffic light), aubergines (black beauty), courgettes (green bush), cucumber (marketmore), and I'm planning to start them off in a heated propagator, before eventually putting them outside. Now what I'm stuck with is how all these plants grow best. I did cucumbers (from plants) last year in a growbag & just trailed them along the ground - but this year I'm thinking of making a cold frame on top of paving, and just grow them in a big pot. Do you think this will work? & the same for the courgettes? Now what about peppers & aubergines, do they need to grow upwards like tomatoes, or could I grow them on the ground in a cold frame. Sorry, they are stupid questions, I know. Hope someone can help.
These are fruiting's so Im presuming they need to be upright.
Canes lashed together to make some sort of frame might be a good idea. I have some old bits of trellis and of all things an old bit of garden gate im going to hammer into the wall to tie leggy plants to. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Ps I have planted my carrots over week ago. They are outside in large trug ( about 25 seeds) under a bit of poundshop fleece.
Ive had no sign of life at all yet- am i being impatient!?!? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I grew carrots last year and from what I can remember they took longer than a week to germinate (although I can't remember how long) but I do remember thinking they were never going to do anything and then bam! they all came up!
I did sow them later than you have tho - think it must have been about mid April.0 -
Carrots first shoots are incredibly fine and so its often hard to see them unless you look really closely. They will also take a while to come up and I'm not surprised they haven't shown in a week if they are outside.Adventure before Dementia!0
