Tomatoes - loads and loads and loads of tomatoes (alicante) but no sign of anything going green yet!

What colour were they to start with?

Courgettes - we have 3 massive marrows! They're over a foot long, and at least 10cm in width! I can't believe that happened in just a week!

Get these on the scales, and into my competition thread! ;)

Hi janibrown - any chance of posting the recipes or a link to the recipes - I have had loads of jars donated to me ready to make some Chutney - like the sound of the Courgette chutney, the green tomato chutney and the cucumber chutney, thanks.:D

We're just back from holiday and it seems there has been quite a bit of activity in the garden while we were away! I have posted some pics below:

Pumpkin - this is the first one that has actually grown and is now the size of a small football. All the others on the plant have died at the size of golfballs (I think that happens when they're not pollinated).
    p1010368n.jpg

Aubergine - really pleased with these because they're grown outside, and there are a couple that have reached the size you get in the shops (albeit the smaller ones). Not quite as fat, but lengthwise definitely looking good! Not sure how much longer to leave them before harvesting.

Tomatoes - loads and loads and loads of tomatoes (alicante) but no sign of anything going green yet!
    p1010363c.jpg

Courgettes - we have 3 massive marrows! They're over a foot long, and at least 10cm in width! I can't believe that happened in just a week!
    p1010362.jpg

Cucumbers - I really don't think these are doing much, this seems to be the biggest one. They're supposed to be outdoor cucumbers but perhaps they would have done better under cover. Oh well, maybe next year - I'll not give up hope for these ones yet though just in case they have a late spurt!
    p1010359s.jpg

Peppers - these look good but actually I think last year's ones were more successful. These are quite small whereas last year they were almost as big as the ones in the shops (although not as fat). They're supposed to be red but I don't know when they will actually turn red.

    I have aubergine envy! WOW!

Really enjoyed looking at all your pics. Jolly well done!

I second Scotsaver's request for the recipes for spicy courgette chutney and the green tomato chutney. Many thanks!

Just nipped in the garden and discovered that I had some veggies ready for harvesting again, only picked some off each plant 2 days ago, still, i'm not complaining! Here's what the garden offered me this evening...

Rightio my knowledgeable friends....i purchased 2 Capiscum pepper plants from B and Q months ago when they were only about 6 inches tall...i had some sowed from seed but was worried i would do something wrong or they would refuse to grow...anyway, of the two that i purchased, one is heavily fruiting and has 4 sizeable green peppers on it with more still growing....the other plant though, it has no peppers like the other ones, but it does have what I suspect to be chilli's. As you all know, i'm new to this gardening thing so is it normal for chillis to be half green and half purple like the one in the picture... or are they not chilli's at all :D

Yaaaay fame at last!! :j Seriously though, how efficient you are, all those jars of dried veg. I'm so impressed. I've been freezing my glut of runner beans today but, as you say, they take so much room up in the freezer. Are those Kilner jars that you are using? I suppose the produce could also be stored in freezer bags after dehydration.

Did you find your smaller (and cheaper) dehydrator worked well enough? Can't afford the more expensive type at the moment and I suppose I should start off in a more modest way anyway.

So thanks so much for all your help and information in this, katholicos, and hope you enjoyed the veg curry.

    Thacky :D
  • I'm getting on the bandwagon now I'm really tempted to get a dehydrater and a vacuum food sealer system. First time growing pumkins and looks like I will have a few large ones.

    Geddin! :D :j

Thanks for that - very informative! :T I think this would be ideal for me as I've got very limited freezer space. Well, either this or I need to buy another freezer. :p
