Also does anybody know how to harvest seed from your current plants?

Look down the bottom left hand side of this site - lots of info for various different methods of seed saving. :)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Thacky and MrB, i made a quick video this evening about dehydrating some of the veggies i harvested this weekend. Tomorrow, when the veggies have dehydrated completely, I'll make another video of the results. You might find it interesting. The video is here.

I shall look forward to part 2. :D

Tell me, is the dehydrator particularly costly to run?

Wonder if anyone can give me some help regarding cucumbers. Have been looking through posts but unable to find anything similar.

Just started growing veg this year, and decided to try a cucumber plant. Got a couple early on, but as the flower died, the end of the cucumber where the flower was started to rot.

Another couple of cucumbers formed, and I removed the flower, which seemed to do the trick. The cucumbers started to thicken from the end furthest from the stalk and I thought maybe this was how they grew - but now have cucumbers the thicknes of a thumb near the stalk and like a tennis ball at the far end!

Will probably just remove them and see what I get next

My cucumbers are all shapes and sizes. Two have been straight and long, the majority are U shaped, some like a C, others have been thick at one end and thin at the other. I have cut them off and eaten them all. Delicious. So far have had 12 from one plant with more to come.

Emiliah- if the fruit is rotting it is usually because they haven't been pollunated. This may also be why they are coming out funny sizes. Where are they planted? If they are in the greenhouse it might be an idea to leave the door open?

 You didn't say hello to thacky & MBE. :(

Although I did get mentioned as "someone". :rotfl:

Can we see what the veg is like when it's rehydrated next please? I'd like one of these, but don't think I'd get sufficient use out of it to justify the spend. :o

We're just back from holiday and it seems there has been quite a bit of activity in the garden while we were away! I have posted some pics below:

Pumpkin - this is the first one that has actually grown and is now the size of a small football. All the others on the plant have died at the size of golfballs (I think that happens when they're not pollinated).

Aubergine - really pleased with these because they're grown outside, and there are a couple that have reached the size you get in the shops (albeit the smaller ones). Not quite as fat, but lengthwise definitely looking good! Not sure how much longer to leave them before harvesting.
    p1010365po.jpg

Tomatoes - loads and loads and loads of tomatoes (alicante) but no sign of anything going [STRIKE]green [/STRIKE](oops!) red yet!
    p1010363c.jpg

Courgettes - we have 3 massive marrows! They're over a foot long, and at least 10cm in width! I can't believe that happened in just a week!
    p1010362.jpg

Cucumbers - I really don't think these are doing much, this seems to be the biggest one. They're supposed to be outdoor cucumbers but perhaps they would have done better under cover. Oh well, maybe next year - I'll not give up hope for these ones yet though just in case they have a late spurt!
    p1010359s.jpg

Peppers - these look good but actually I think last year's ones were more successful. These are quite small whereas last year they were almost as big as the ones in the shops (although not as fat). They're supposed to be red but I don't know when they will actually turn red.
